Department Summary:
MITRE's Data Science department is looking for qualified applicants to bring their advanced data science, machine learning, and applied research skills to bear on solving problems of critical national importance. Roles & Responsibilities:
The successful candidate for this position is an experienced Data Scientist who combines a solid theoretical and technical background with the ability to identify and formulate problems, develop and evaluate solutions, and effectively communicate results. Our organization values innovation and believes that keeping up with the latest research and technologies is essential. The candidate should have hands-on experience in several data science or AI relevant areas , including:
Machine Learning (e.g., Supervised, Unsupervised, Deep Learning, Reinforcement) and Model Evaluation
Anomaly Detection (e.g., Supervised ML, Autoencoders, Isolation Forest, DBSCAN, Gaussian Mixture Models)
Statistical Analysis (e.g., Descriptive Statistics, Regression, Causal Inference, Factors Analysis)
MLOps
Big Data Analysis (e.g., PySpark, Trino)
Computer Programming - Python (Required); R, C/C++, Java, Scala, Julia, Rust, MATLAB (Preferred)
Databases - SQL, NoSQL, Graph
Environments and Supporting Tools (e.g., Cloud Computing - AWS, Azure; Linux; GitLab)
Expectations for the successful candidate for this position are as follows:
Leads simple projects or has accountability for tasks on a complex project; plans and guides the work of others.
When in a contributor role, works independently and requires minimal instruction, guidance, and direction.
Identifies and solves complex problems; Takes a new perspective on existing solutions; Exercises judgment within the Data Science discipline.
Leverages advanced knowledge of Data Science and transfers that knowledge to others.
Communicates complex results, both written and verbal, to technical and non-technical audiences.
Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, Statistics, Data Science, or related field with 5years of related experienceor 3 years and a Masters degree pr PhD with relevant experience who can immediately contribute
Must be a U.S. citizen with ability to possess and maintain DoD clearance.
Hands-on proficiency with advanced Data Science techniques, including Machine Learning (e.g., supervised, unsupervised, deep learning, reinforcement learning), anomaly detection, statistical analysis, and/or analysis of very large datasets.
Computer programming skills (e.g., Python, R, C/C++, Java, Scala, Julia, Rust, MATLAB).
This position requires a minimum of 50% hybrid on-site.
Preferred Qualifications:
Advanced degree in Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, Statistics, Data Science, or related field.
Possess an active DoD TS security clearance.

Salary compensation range and midpoint:
$124,400 - $155,500 - $186,600 Annual
