About The Role: As a Simulation intern, you'll collaborate with seasoned engineers to design and implement real simulation features that enhance the work of GM's validation teams. You'll engage with customers to understand their needs, turn those insights into clear specifications, develop high-quality code for our simulation platform, and evaluate your contributions to the team. About The Team: The GM AV Simulation team is dedicated to creating cutting-edge testing and analysis technologies that accelerate the development of autonomous vehicles and vehicle software. Our diverse clientele includes developers assessing the impact of their code on vehicle performance, data engineers analyzing our pipelines for actionable insights, and release teams monitoring key performance metrics. Our mission is to deliver user-friendly experiences for robotics and AI engineers, propelling GM towards a driverless future. What You'll Do: Quickly familiarize yourself with the codebase and product area. Meet with customers to understand their roles and how you can support them. Efficiently complete assigned tasks with minimal iterations. Develop, test, and deploy robust code across our simulation infrastructure. Identify problems, outline optimal solutions, and consider tradeoffs and edge cases. Participate in code reviews, technical discussions, and design sessions. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure smooth software integration. Communicate effectively with multiple stakeholders. Seek guidance from senior developers when necessary. Required Qualifications: Currently enrolled in a full-time degree program, pursuing a Master's degree in Computer Science or a related field. Experience in coding with Python or C++. Able to commit to a full-time schedule of 40 hours per week. Preferred Qualifications: Demonstrated software engineering experience from internships, personal projects, or competitions. Intention to return to degree program after the internship. Background in robotics, ROS, or the AV/ADAS sectors. Experience with data pipelines supporting data science efforts. Experience developing high-quality developer productivity tools. Capability of developing software under heavy performance and latency constraints. Experience with safety-critical code development. Graduating between December 2026 and June 2027. Compensation: The monthly salary for this position is $9,200.
