Job Description Join General Motors (GM) as we shape the future of mobility with our cutting-edge self-driving and electric vehicle innovations. Be part of a team that is building revolutionary autonomous vehicles designed to enhance the way people connect with their surroundings. Our mission is to save lives, bring freedom of movement to many, and improve the overall transit experience. Selecting a career with GM offers a unique opportunity for personal and professional growth while collaborating with industry leaders. We embrace a culture of internal mobility, providing the chance to thrive across various disciplines. This is a place where dreamers and doers can make an impact. If you aspire to contribute positively to the world through advancements in self-driving technology, we want you to join our team. About the Team: The AV ML Infra team at GM is responsible for creating innovative end-to-end ML platforms and developer-facing products tailored to meet the specific demands of AI and ML development. Our efforts support a wide array of teams, including Embodied AI, Simulation, Data Science, and more. We empower the efficient experimentation of ML models, boost productivity for ML engineers, and promote the adoption of state-of-the-art ML techniques. The infrastructure we develop includes: AI Validation & Inference:
Ensuring strong model performance through large-scale simulations and management of dependable ML inference pipelines.
ML Compute:
Optimizing and streamlining large-scale ML training and inference processes across cloud and on-premise resources.
AV Pipelines & Lineage:
Automating ML workflows while maintaining data and model lineage across various infrastructures, enhancing engineering velocity and ensuring reproducibility.
Together, these systems enable GM to navigate the complexities of autonomous vehicle technology and hasten our commercialization efforts. Position Overview: As a Senior Fullstack Engineer, you will design and construct end-to-end software products, taking charge of everything from user-facing interfaces to backend services and cloud infrastructure. You will lead complex projects, work in close collaboration with product managers and platform teams, and mentor junior engineers. This role emphasizes hands-on technical contributions, system design, and impactful product development over people management. Please note: This position focuses on ML infrastructure engineering rather than the application of machine learning models for specific tasks. You will be developing infrastructure products that enable GM teams to perform machine learning and data science at scale. Your Responsibilities: Full-Stack Development:
Design, implement, and maintain web applications and internal tools for AV engineering teams. Build backend services and APIs that support frontend experiences while ensuring security, reliability, and performance.
Frontend Engineering:
Create modern and responsive UIs using frameworks like React or Angular. Collaborate with UX and product partners for intuitive workflows and compelling user experiences.
Design & Implementation:
Leverage the latest cloud technologies (GCP/Azure) to implement scalable distributed computing and data processing solutions.
Project Ownership:
Lead technical projects from inception to conclusion. Contribute to the product roadmap and make informed decisions regarding technical trade-offs.
Collaboration:
Actively participate in team planning, code reviews, and design discussions while managing conflicts and considering the impact on multiple teams.
Mentorship & Recruitment:
Conduct technical interviews, onboard, and mentor engineers and interns, fostering a culture of growth and knowledge-sharing.
Qualifications: 5+ years of professional software engineering experience, specializing in full-stack development.
Experience in building and operating production-grade web applications.
1+ years of experience in leading large-scale initiatives.
Proficiency in building scalable cloud infrastructure using languages such as Python, C++, or Golang.
Experience with both relational and NoSQL databases.
Demonstrated capability to develop and maintain systems at scale.
A Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Ph.D. in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, or a related field; or equivalent practical experience.
A genuine passion for autonomous vehicle technology and its potential to transform the industry.
Strong attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy.
A proven track record of efficiently solving complex problems.
A startup mentality and eagerness to embrace uncertainty and take on multiple roles.
Bonus Points: Familiarity with Google Cloud Platform, Microsoft Azure, or Amazon Web Services.
Experience with orchestration platforms like Kubeflow, Flyte, or Airflow.
Proficiency in Kubernetes.
Understanding of Machine Learning models/pipelines.
Proficiency in Python, C++, or Golang.
Relevant publications.
Compensation: The expected base compensation for this role is: $170,600- $261,300. Actual compensation will vary based on individual qualifications and experience.
Bonus Potential:
An incentive pay program based on company and individual performance.
Benefits: GM offers diverse health and wellbeing benefits programs including medical, dental, vision, retirement savings plans, paid vacation, tuition assistance, and GM vehicle discounts.
About GM: At GM, our vision is to create a world with Zero Crashes, Zero Emissions, and Zero Congestion. We take our responsibility to lead this change seriously, striving to create a safer, better, and more equitable world.
