Job Description:

The role is responsible for driving energy conservation results within the Commercial and/or Affordable Housing sectors. This includes achieving assigned DSM (Demand Side Management) revenue targets, cultivating strong customer and partner relationships, and delivering high‑quality technical and analytical support to identify and execute energy efficiency projects.

Specific Accountabilities:

  • Meet or exceed assigned Commercial and/or Affordable Housing energy conservation sales targets to support overall DSM revenue goals.
  • Provide accurate, timely forecasts and personal outlooks for annual conservation results.
  • Independently develop and deliver technical solutions, including custom energy‑efficiency calculations for assigned accounts.
  • Conduct site walk‑throughs to identify, assess, and screen potential energy conservation opportunities.
  • Ensure timely and accurate entry of all potential, active, and completed projects into DSM tracking systems, supporting audit and verification processes.
  • Build strong operational and technical relationships with customers at all organizational levels to support long-term trust and natural gas usage reduction.
  • Establish and maintain alliances with business partners (contractors, equipment suppliers, manufacturers, engineering consultants, etc.) to facilitate project development.
  • Identify opportunities and challenges affecting program delivery within assigned market segments.
  • Provide ongoing market intelligence to Program Design and internal stakeholders, contributing to program enhancements and future offerings.
  • Develop, update, and execute annual account plans for assigned territories and customers.
  • Conduct proactive outreach to educate customers and promote participation in energy conservation programs.
  • Represent the company at meetings, trade shows, energy forums, and industry events.
  • Work collaboratively with cross-functional colleagues—including Technical Review, Program Design, Evaluation & Audit, and Marketing—to deliver work safely, accurately, and on time.
  • Demonstrate company values, key competencies, and a strong commitment to safety.

Scope Dimensions:

  • Achieve individual annual energy conservation targets to maximize shareholder value.
  • Maintain strong self-motivation and discipline to meet scorecard metrics and offering targets.
  • Develop and sustain strong relationships with customers and external partners to meet program goals and protect the company brand.
  • Strengthen partnerships with contractors, distributors, wholesalers, manufacturers, and engineering firms that support natural gas energy solutions.
  • Support the company's path to zero safety incidents by promoting and practicing safety-first behaviors.

Working Relationships:

Internal:

  • Collaborate extensively with customers such as business owners, energy managers, plant managers, and property managers.
  • Work closely with Energy Conservation peers in Technical Review, Program Design, Evaluation & Audit, and Marketing.

External:

  • Engage with builders, developers, HVAC contractors, equipment suppliers and manufacturers, consulting engineers, municipal contacts, and industry associations (e.g., HRAI).

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Required:

  • University degree in Engineering (mechanical, chemical, or electrical preferred), OR an additional three years of related experience in lieu of a degree.
  • Minimum four years of project engineering, project management, or sales experience in commercial environments.
  • Strong understanding of energy management, DSM principles, and sustainability.
  • Exceptional knowledge of commercial HVAC systems and design.
  • Strong analytical, technical, and problem‑solving skills.
  • Self‑starter with the ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Customer-focused with proven ability to influence without authority.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and public speaking skills.
  • Strong relationship‑building, negotiation, and time‑management skills.
  • Valid driver's license with a responsible driving record.
  • Working knowledge of building sciences and Ontario Building Code (new construction).

Preferred:

  • P.Eng designation (PEO membership).
  • Energy management certifications (e.g., CEM, EMIT).
  • CMVP certification.
  • Operational or design experience with HVAC, boilers, BAS controls, or building construction.

Working Conditions:

  • Hybrid role: approximately 50% office-based and 50% field-based.
  • Frequent travel across Ontario, including overnight stays.
  • Regular visits to customer facilities and job sites to assess energy efficiency opportunities.
  • Valid Ontario G‑class driver's license required.
