This position is temporary until March 2028
The Sr. Advisor, will work with the programs (VPs, Directors, Managers), key strategic partners and their management teams to achieve and maintain effective financial management, control and strategic planning while working within the corporate policies and procedures of HHS. The Sr. Advisor will inform, guide and provide recommendations, they will also lead design and strategy.
Role Accountabilities and Competencies Required
Strategic Direction
• The Sr. Advisor is responsible for leading key strategic initiatives and projects, driving cost savings and optimization. These strategic initiatives may span across multiple programs, systems and processes.
• The Sr. Advisor will be responsible for leading and designing the "art of the possible", excelling in areas of ambiguity. The Sr. Advisor will lead the design and strategy of transformative change.
• The Sr. Advisor will foster and maintain strategic partnerships. They will provide external environment oversight. The Sr. Advisor will be a subject matter expert of applicable external environment (i.e. MOH, Legislative)
• The Sr. Advisor will oversee business development and development of business cases. Some areas included are marketed service, non-MOH revenue, ROI (return on investment), BROC (benefit realization). The Sr. Advisor will be responsible for establishing business development plans/cases, managing results and KPIs
Leadership
• The Sr. Advisor will be responsible for providing informal leadership, through stakeholder and peer centric mentoring and coaching
• The Sr. Advisor will be responsible for applying professional judgment and have a high degree of problem solving. They will be responsible for navigating complexities and nuances in the current environment. The Sr. Advisor will be expected to problem solve, with medium-large complexity with minimal direction.
• The Sr. Advisor will excel in navigating the internal environment, relationship management, managing and navigating culture, members, events, operations within HHS.
• The Sr. Advisor will be a key operational contact, in some scenarios the main operational contact, frequently engaging with operations on a breadth of issues.
• The Sr. Advisor will be expected to work towards annual goals and objectives under the guidance of their leader.
People
• The Sr. Advisor will be responsible to collaborate and partner with operations, programs and external partners, to achieve a common goal or initiative. The Sr. Advisor will be involved in integrated collaboration with multiple individuals within various disciplines, simultaneously.
• The Sr. Advisor will be responsible for both formal and informal communication. Communication will come in the form of verbal, written (i.e. Board Reports, Executive Overviews). Communication to include both internal and external stakeholders
• The Sr. Advisor will be responsible to provide frequent formal communication on standard topics to executive leaderships. Standard topics include recurring and established communication forms (i.e. month end, operational overviews etc.).
• The Sr. Advisor will be responsible to provide frequent formal communication on non-standard topics to executive leaderships. Non-standard topics include items that are unique, one-time, flexible, non-established (i.e. strategic initiatives, business process reviews, business cases etc.)
• The Sr. Advisor is responsible for having impact, guiding solutions/decisions, driving results and having influence over change and structure.
• The Sr. Advisor is responsible for providing recommendations and solutions to executive leadership. The recommendations and solutions will apply to items that range from focused, to large in scope.
• The Sr. Advisor will be responsible to support and lead stakeholders through change.
Business Skills
• The Sr. Advisor will be responsible for overseeing workflows, processes, control frameworks, policies and procedures. The Sr. Advisor's involvement will vary between:
o Being responsible for the strategy and design of new business processes
o Leading continuous improvement initiatives
o Having a thorough understanding of a business process or being the subject matter expert
• The Sr. Advisor will be involved in data management, data governance and data architecture processes and procedures. The Sr. Advisor will have a basic understanding of data structure as it applies to analytics and reporting. In some scenarios the Sr. Advisor will act as the subject matter expert, understanding workflow and the impact data has on business processes
• The Sr. Advisor will be responsible for data analysis and interpretation. Using published datasets for adhoc analysis, managing and envisioning KPIs
• The Sr. Advisor will lead the design and strategy of adhoc analysis and KPIs, identifying alternative solutions and scenarios with minimal guidance.
Professional Skills
• The Sr. Advisor will be responsible for leading the design and strategy of policies, plans, processes, control frameworks, operating activity etc. as it pertains to Operations Finance, including interconnected planning processes and linking financials with operating implications.
The Sr. Advisor role requires the following:
1. Education – at least one of the following:
• Professional designation (i.e. CPA, CFA) – enrolment or completion of
• Applicable post-graduate degree (i.e. MBA, Masters of Finance) – enrolment or completion of
• OR the equivalent to the above (i.e. work experience)
2. Work Experience – 5+ years of relevant work experience
3. Specialized Skills – 5+ years of experience in each of the following:
• Financial modeling
• Financial graphical and visualization
• Financial and Operating Systems
4. Soft Skill Experience – 5+ years of experience in each of the following:
• Analytical and Problem Solving Skills
• Communication Skills – both formal (i.e. presentations, board reports, executive overviews/narratives) and informal
• Interpersonal Skills
• Collaboration/Team Work
• Informal leadership, coaching and leaderships
