Job Description:
Department Overview
The GI Reinsurance department is responsible for ensuring that insurance risk is appropriately mitigated by designing and managing reinsurance structures aligned with TD Insurance's risk appetite. The team also evaluates actuarial reserves and the ultimate cost of catastrophic loss events and provides periodic financial reporting of reinsurance‑related results.
Key Responsibilities
- Participate in the execution of reinsurance's monthly financial reporting, including the monthly analysis and evaluation of amounts recoverable from reinsurers. Work with Finance on any issues that arise.
- Participate in the annual reinsurance treaty renewal process, participate in the review of the reinsurance strategy
- Participate in the forecasting of losses as part of budget planning and periodic follow-ups
- Participate in and develop projects to enhance the performance of the reinsurance group (i.e. climate change analysis, risk assessment by natural perils, IFRS17 development)
- Rigorously apply the business' governance principles, including SOX and EUC controls, audits and model validation processes
- Develop relationships with our partners in the Claims department to better understand the claim lifecycle and establish monitoring processes
- Assist in presenting reinsurance to various internal partners, inform them of their potential impact on reinsurance future needs or cost
- Create and maintain well-structured reusable tools
- Participate in projects or craft responses to ad-hoc requests
Requirements
- Bachelors or Master's degree in actuarial, mathematics, statistics or data science
- Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience
- Working toward designation of ACAS or FCAS
- Strong computer and programming skills, including Excel, VBA, R, and SQL
- Demonstrate knowledge of financial statements, the insurance industry and reinsurance concepts
- Client-oriented and superior communication skills
- Strong written and verbal communication skills in both English and French
- Recognized for high quality work, strong attention to detail and rigor
- Strong planning abilities; analytical, collaborative, and innovative mindset
