Associate Director, Growth, Application & Capex (Full Time) - Mississauga, ON.

Primary Purpose

The Associate Director, Growth, Applications & Capex will be responsible for the business development efforts of Linde Canada's Merchant & Onsite business. This includes driving growth by identifying and developing new opportunities, promoting Linde's application technologies and leading the capital investment process for Merchant and Onsite opportunities. The role will monitor competitive activity, set business development targets, and ensure alignment of strategies, objectives and incentivization across the team. This role will also be responsible for securing and negotiating third-party hydrogen offtake agreements and leading the incentive applications for Linde's Clean Hydrogen Project in Alberta and other decarbonization opportunities across Canada.

Key Accountabilities

Commercial Strategy & Growth

  • Develop and execute Growth strategy for the merchant and onsite business
  • Monitor competitive activity to ensure appropriate response strategies
  • Analyze and understand the new market segments and value chains within the target markets (market size, growth, trends, competition, partners, alliances, customer needs, etc..)
  • Prepare and negotiate detailed business terms for merchant and onsite investments and participate in the execution of such in conjunction with the regional business and legal departments.

Competitive Activity & Target Setting

  • Set business development objectives and targets for the sales team, including regular review of opportunity reports and KPIs with Sales and LCI management
  • Develop and manage aligned incentive programs across the businesses to drive growth

Applications & Market Development

  • Drive growth through new business signings from application technologies and decarbonization opportunities; manage and direct the existing Food BD team (3 reports)
  • Secure and negotiate third-party hydrogen offtake agreements for Linde's Clean Hydrogen Project in Alberta
  • Develop other low carbon H2 supply / decarbonization opportunities and position Linde as premium provider of low carbon hydrogen

Capital Investment & Project Execution

  • Lead the capital investment process for merchant and onsite opportunities, from initial proposal through to final investment approval
  • Coordinate with cross-functional teams to ensure projects are delivered on time / within budget

Incentives & Regulatory Alignment

  • Lead the application for federal and provincial incentives, including CCUS and Clean Hydrogen ITCs for the DOW project and other decarbonization opportunities

Required Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in business, Engineering, Chemical or related discipline is required
  • Post-graduate degree is preferred

Experience

  • Must have minimum of ten (10) years' commercial experience, or business or project development or similar experience
  • Experience migrating new Industrial Gases Applications Technologies from development to commercial installations
  • Experience in project management and business development/or sales with demonstrated success in developing and commercializing complex and uncertain projects on a build own operate basis with and without partners.

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities

  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills; capable of delivering messages to wide array of audiences in a clear, compelling, and concise manner
  • Excellent leadership and communication skills including communication to senior management.
  • Well-developed commercial skills with experience in negotiating complex investment projects including partnerships, offtake agreements, financing etc.
  • Knowledge of the technology and business cases for a range of Linde's Applications Technologies
  • Technical competency enabling intelligent interaction with customers and experts operating in a variety of industries and technical disciplines
  • Proven track record of demonstrated success in cross-collaboration efforts
  • Mastery of powerpoint, excel, and DCF analysis.
  • Driven, self-starter able to deliver results with minimal oversight and guidance
  • Commercial creativity with an entrepreneurial spirit
  • Must be willing to travel at least 25% of the time
