Job DescriptionReporting to our Planner, the Planning Summer Student is responsible for duties associated with the processing of subdivision applications, statutory plan and land use bylaw amendments and providing planning advice to the staff and public.
Job Duties and Tasks:
• Review, analyze, comment on, and prepare reports regarding applications for development permits, subdivision, and land use bylaw amendments.
• Meet with members of the public and represent the County at public information meetings that may be held with respect to any planning processes,
• Liaise and coordinate with other Country departments, government agencies and adjacent municipalities,
• Present application files including comments and recommendations to Council and/or the Municipal Planning Commission.
• Provide assistance on long range planning projects including Municipal Development Plans, Area Structure Plans and other planning matters.
• Conduct research as required.
• Support public engagement activities by attending public events, communicating projects to the public, and facilitating workshops and other activities.
• Participate in other administrative and municipal planning activities and issues as required.
Education and Experience:
• One-year post-secondary education in a recognized Planning program or related field.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
• Knowledge of fundamental planning concepts such as zoning, environmental protection, and neighbourhood design.
• Familiarity with Alberta's regulations related to development and municipal powers, such as the Municipal Government Act and Matters Related to Subdivision and Development Regulation.
• Ability to support consultation activities, such as stakeholder identification, activity design and event planning.
• Ability to conduct research and analysis on complex policy topics.
• Writing skills to be able to prepare materials for a range of audiences, such as technical reports and display boards.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work in a business and political environment.
• Familiarity with AutoCAD and GIS programs would be an asset.
• Ability to ensure all work-related information is kept confidential as per policy and in accordance with Access to Information Act.
Term Length: This position works Monday to Friday for 35 hours per week from May 4 – August 28, 2026
Closing Date: This posting will close on February 23, 2026.
Pay Rate: $25.53 – $30.03
