ROLE PURPOSE

The Manager, Quality is the product quality subject-matter expert for the company and provides strategic guidance and operational supports to production, procurement, marketing, finance and other business functions. This role is responsible for the development, implementation and execution of product quality standards, ensuring processes meet or exceed customer specifications, internal standards, applicable regulatory requirements.  This role will manage business-to-business client relationships, building strong partnerships to advance and sustain client quality expectations.

ACCOUNTABILITIES

Quality Management Program (25%)

  • Develop, implement, maintain, review and improve the Quality Management System (QMS)
  • Monitor critical QMS elements to assess product quality risks and recommend corrective actions
  • Establish and maintain a document control system to ensure effective QMS governance
  • Collaborate with the operations team to ensure that the QMS and quality plan supports current quality management strategies, corporate objectives and industry requirements
  • Oversee regulatory activity on a daily basis, including performing or directing audits
  • Develop an internal audit regime to ensure compliance with regulation and conformance with quality management framework
  • Monitor the follow-up and completion of corrective and preventative actions (CAPAs)
  • Review and approve qualification protocols or reports, product development reports, cleaning validation protocols or reports, change controls, and investigations as required
  • Provide leadership relative to quality management initiatives throughout the division acting as the internal consultant for the development of documents, control systems and policy development
  • Oversee the complaint management process for product quality
  • Monitor, assess, and report on new or evolving regulatory and compliance requirements

Process and Continuous Improvement (20%)

  • Develop, review and implement Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
  • Conduct process audits to identify and document opportunities for performance improvement
  • Present recommendations on services, policies, programs and opportunities for cost-reduction, while striving to continuously improve processes
  • Provide leadership and facilitate staff development in the utilization of problem solving and priority setting tools for the execution of breakthrough projects
  • Communicate and build strong relationships with all stakeholders and project team members
  • Participate in defining project scope and champion stakeholder needs
  • Develop comprehensive business requirements, project charters and establish key deliverables and success metrics

Performance Measurement (20%)

  • Recommend and develop key performance indicators (KPIs) with an emphasis on dashboard-based reporting
  • Use statistical analysis and statistical process control (SPC) techniques to identify performance trends and make recommendations for improvement opportunities
  • Develop and deploy key performance indicator (KPI) metrics and ensure ongoing tracking and implementation of corrective actions

People Development (20%)

  • Provide direction and on the job training to all employees
  • Collaborate with supervisors and colleagues to develop and maintain good working relationships that support the organization's mission and goals
  • Motivate and coach employees to achieve optimal performance 

Health and Safety (15%)

  • Educate employees on health and safety regulations, policies and practices
  • Enforce health, safety and sanitation regulations
  • Complete incident and lost time reporting of health and safety near misses and infractions
  • Follow health and safety regulations, policies and procedures
QUALIFICATIONS

Education 

  • University Degree in Engineering, Chemistry or a related field 

Certification

  • Trained and/or certified in relevant quality and management systems, including:
    • ISO 9001 Quality Management System
    • GMP / HACCP
    • Six Sigma
    • Statistical Process Control (SPC) methodology
    • RSPO Supply Chain Certification Systems (SCCS)

Professional Experience

  • 7+ years in quality assurance / quality control within a manufacturing or processing environment
  • 7+ years working with national and/or international clients
  • 5+ years in high-volume manufacturing
  • 5+ years in managerial or supervisory role
  • Demonstrated experience leading and supporting certification and regulatory audits
  • End-to-end manufacturing operations, including raw material inspection, in-process quality control, final product inspection and release
  • Strong collaboration with production, maintenance, procurement, and logistics teams

 Skills

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite 
  • Computer proficiency 
  • Practical knowledge and application of Six Sigma tools, SPC techniques and process mapping

WORKING CONDITIONS

This role operates in a production environment; employees are exposed to shop elements such as noise, dust, fumes, variable temperatures and fragrances.

COMPENSATION

The compensation range for this position is $85,000 - $110,000 annually.

 Final compensation will be based on factors such as skills, experience, qualifications, and internal equity.
