Your technical leadership in construction materials engineering will support the energy, industrial, municipal, and commercial sectors while helping advance WSP's growth across the region.
Your Impact
You will apply your expertise to deliver high‑impact materials engineering solutions that support safe, reliable, and sustainable construction outcomes across Northern Alberta:
- Provide specialized consulting for concrete, aggregates, soil, and asphalt pavement materials across industrial, oil & gas, municipal, highway, commercial, and residential sectors.
- Lead technical execution and remain hands‑on with project delivery, ensuring high‑quality, billable work that drives client confidence.
- Prepare, review, and refine proposals, technical reports, and recommendations that influence critical project decisions.
- Oversee and review field and laboratory testing results for concrete, aggregates, and asphalt in alignment with CSA and ASTM standards.
- Validate construction monitoring findings, including subgrade, foundations, piles, and pavement inspections.
- Advance business growth by cultivating client relationships, contributing to proposals, and identifying new opportunities for the Materials Engineering team.
- Represent WSP within industry associations (e.g., CSA, ACI, ICRI) through committees, conferences, presentations, and technical engagement.
- Mentor and supervise junior engineers and technicians, ensuring technical excellence and project delivery effectiveness.
The Skills That Set You Apart
- A degree or diploma in Civil or Materials Engineering with specialized knowledge of concrete, asphalt, aggregates, and construction materials technology.
- 10+ years of hands‑on experience in materials engineering within Fort McMurray or Northern Alberta.
- Strong familiarity with local construction clients, environments, and regional project requirements.
- Proven ability to secure work, support business development, and nurture long‑term client relationships.
- Comfortable working in varied environmental conditions, including remote sites and inclement weather.
- Valid Alberta Class 5 Driver's License and readiness for occasional travel.
- Strong technical writing and clear, concise communication skills.

Compensation:
- AB, BC, NT, NU, SK & YT: $89,800 – $118,900
- MB & ON: $81,900 – $112,800
- NB, NL, NS, PEI & QC: $81,100 – $107,700
