Key Responsibilities

• Work with senior team members to understand business problems and contribute to AI solution design
• Develop, test, and deploy AI applications under guidance of experienced engineers
• Assist in implementing monitoring and evaluation processes for AI systems
• Learn and apply AI tools, techniques, and best practices
• Stay current with emerging AI technologies and explore their potential applications
• Participate in technical design sessions and code reviews
• Create and maintain documentation including technical specifications and runbooks
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver AI initiatives
• Support efforts to ensure AI solutions adhere to security, privacy, and ethical AI guidelines

What We're Looking For

Essential Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, or related field
• 1-3 years of experience in software development or AI (internships and co-op experience count)
• Strong foundational programming skills and eagerness to learn new technologies
• Self-starter with strong organizational, multi-tasking and time management skills
• Demonstrated curiosity and passion for artificial intelligence and emerging technologies
• Strong problem-solving and analytical thinking skills
• Excellent collaboration and communication skills (written and verbal)
• Willingness to ask questions, seek feedback, and learn from others
• Passion for using AI to create positive impact for clients and business

Technical Skills and Experience

Programming & Development:

• Solid programming skills in Python, Java (beneficial)
• Familiarity with web development frameworks (experience with REACT or similar UI frameworks is a plus)

AWS Cloud Services:

• Basic understanding of AWS cloud services (experience is a plus)
• Exposure to AWS Bedrock, SageMaker, and Lambda for AI is beneficial
• Familiarity with S3 for API and UI development is beneficial
• Basic knowledge of AWS CLI for AWS resource management is beneficial

DevOps & Infrastructure:

• Familiarity with version control systems like Git and Bitbucket
• Exposure to containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes, OpenShift, etc.)
• Basic understanding of infrastructure as code concepts (Terraform is a plus)
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines using tools like Jenkins is beneficial
• Experience with SAM CLI for local Lambda testing and development is beneficial

AI Knowledge:

• Understanding of fundamental AI concepts
• Exposure to Large Language Models (LLMs) and Generative AI technologies
• Interest in learning about vector databases, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), and modern AI architectures

Nice to Have:

• Personal projects, hackathons, or open-source contributions demonstrating AI/software development skills
• Internship or co-op experience in software development or AI
• AWS certifications or completed AWS training courses
• Familiarity with Agile methodology
• Interest in financial services, insurance, or wealth management

The Base Pay range is for the primary location for which the job is posted. It may vary depending on the work location of the successful candidate or other factors. In addition to Base Pay, eligible Sun Life employees participate in various incentive plans, payment under which is discretionary and subject to individual and company performance. Certain sales focused roles have sales incentive plans based on individual or group sales results.
