Position Summary

The Commercial Director is a key member of the executive leadership team and is responsible for shaping and executing Poseidon's global commercial strategy to drive sustainable revenue growth, strengthen long-term customer partnerships, expand market presence, and align all commercial activities with the company's mission and long-term objectives.

The Commercial Director will lead sales, business development, customer success, and strategic marketing functions, providing both strategic direction and hands-on leadership across complex sales cycles. This role directly oversees the Commercial Managers (Ex. Chile), Sales Manager, & Customer Succes.  and works cross-functionally to ensure commercial commitments, product delivery, and customer outcomes are aligned.

Key Responsibilities

Commercial Strategy & Leadership:

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive commercial strategy aligned with Poseidon's business objectives and growth ambitions.
  • Serve as a strategic partner to the CEO and executive leadership team in shaping corporate direction, market prioritization, and long-term growth initiatives.
  • Own commercial governance, including pricing strategy, margin management, discount frameworks, and deal approval processes to ensure profitable and consistent execution.
  • Translate market insights, customer feedback, and competitive intelligence into actionable plans that strengthen Poseidon's market position.

Sales & Business Development:

  • Lead global sales and business development activities, including setting revenue targets and KPIs, structuring territories, and developing accurate growth forecasts.
  • Provide hands-on leadership in complex, strategic sales cycles, including senior-level customer engagement, negotiations, and contract closure.
  • Identify and pursue new markets, customer segments, and partnership opportunities, including geographic expansion and channel relationships.
  • Develop and manage global channel strategies, including distributors, agents, and strategic partners, ensuring performance and alignment with company objectives.
  • Build, scale, and lead high-performance commercial teams, including recruiting, mentoring, performance management, and succession planning for direct reports.

Customer & Market Engagement:

  • Champion customer success by fostering strong relationships with strategic accounts and ensuring high levels of satisfaction, retention, and long-term value creation.
  • Drive revenue growth across the full customer lifecycle, including new sales, renewals, expansions, aftermarket services, and long-term customer agreements.
  • Lead efforts to understand evolving customer needs, industry trends, competitive dynamics, and regulatory developments impacting aquaculture technology markets.
  • Represent Poseidon at key industry events, conferences, and tradeshows to enhance brand visibility and generate demand.

Marketing & Brand Positioning:

  • Partner with marketing leadership to refine Poseidon's market positioning, value propositions, and messaging to ensure clear differentiation across target markets.
  • Support and guide go-to-market strategies for new products and services, ensuring compelling commercial value narratives.
  • Provide direct leadership and strategic guidance to the Sales & Marketing Manager to ensure cohesive brand positioning, messaging, and campaign execution globally.
  • Leverage market research, customer insights, and performance data to inform pricing, promotional strategies, and demand-generation initiatives.

Cross-Functional Collaboration:

  • Work closely with Product Development, Engineering, Operations, and Finance to align product roadmaps, delivery capabilities, and commercial commitments.
  • Own the commercial budget and collaborate with Finance to monitor performance, manage resource allocation, and optimize revenue, margins, and profitability.
  • Establish and optimize commercial operating processes, including CRM discipline, pipeline management, forecasting accuracy, and performance reporting.
  • Collaborate with the CEO and CFO on commercial forecasting, budgeting, and reporting to the Board and investors.

Qualifications & Experience

  • 10+ years of progressive commercial leadership experience (or equivalent depth of experience) with end-to-end responsibility across sales, business development, pricing, customer growth, and commercial strategy in complex B2B environments.
  • Demonstrated success leading and closing complex, high-value solution sales, including senior-level negotiations and long-cycle enterprise deals.
  • Proven track record of driving sustained revenue growth, expanding market share, and improving commercial performance while balancing profitability and customer outcomes.
  • Strong command of commercial management fundamentals, including pricing strategy, margin management, contract negotiation, pipeline discipline, forecasting accuracy, and CRM-driven sales operations.
  • Experience building, leading, and scaling high-performing commercial teams, with a hands-on leadership style and accountability for results.
  • Executive-level communication and stakeholder management skills, with credibility engaging customers, partners, and internal leadership.
  • Experience in aquaculture, marine services, environmental technology, industrial equipment, or adjacent technology-enabled industries.
  • International commercial experience, including managing global customers, partners, distributors, or multi-region sales teams.
  • Background in technology-driven or data-enabled solutions, including experience commercializing technically complex products.
