Position Overview

The Town of Devon is seeking two to three (2–3) Casual Recreation Labourer 1 team members to support the maintenance and operations of the Town's recreational facilities and public spaces.

This seasonal position involves a dual-role schedule:

  • Fall/Winter (September–April/May): Arena operations

  • Spring/Summer (April/May–August): Parks maintenance

Under the direction of the Arena Lead Hand and Parks Lead Hand, successful candidates will contribute to maintaining high-quality community spaces and delivering exceptional service to residents and visitors. This role is ideal for individuals with experience in facility maintenance, outdoor work, and customer service.

Key Responsibilities Arena – Fall/Winter
  • Provide courteous and professional service to arena patrons

  • Perform general cleaning and maintenance of arena facilities, including waste and recycling management

  • Conduct snow removal and maintain adjacent outdoor spaces

  • Operate and maintain small equipment and tools safely

  • Assist with inspections, minor repairs, and seasonal start-up/shut-down procedures

Parks – Spring/Summer
  • Maintain parks, trails, playgrounds, and green spaces

  • Perform horticulture and landscaping tasks such as mowing, weeding, and planting

  • Support general upkeep of municipal facilities, including the pool, arena, and offices

  • Assist with logistics and support during community events

  • Ensure cleanliness, safety, and accessibility of outdoor recreational areas

General Responsibilities
  • Operate light to medium-duty equipment and various hand tools safely

  • Adhere to the Town's Health and Safety Program and related procedures

  • Perform additional duties as directed by the Arena or Parks Lead Hand

Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or equivalent

  • 2–3 years of relevant experience preferred (e.g., facility maintenance, arena/parks operations)

  • Valid Class 5 driver's license with a clean Driver's Abstract

  • Clear Criminal Record Check required prior to employment

  • First Aid and CPR certifications are considered assets

  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and customer service skills

  • Ability and willingness to work outdoors in all weather conditions

  • Flexibility to work varying shifts, including weekends and statutory holidays

Compensation and Benefits
  • Hourly Wage: $15.30 – $24.34 per hour, based on experience and qualifications
