What you will do:

  • Sample reception, sample identification, sample preparation, setting up analytical batches and analysis
  • Perform analytical testing using a variety of techniques related to polymer characterizations according to established methods and procedures using analytical techniques such as MFI, IZOD, TENSILE, FTIR, DSC, TGA, Optical Microscopy and Rheology for characterization of polymers
  • Documenting/auditing of SOP's and test methods for testing and processing equipment
  • Responsible for receiving, preparing, testing, interpreting data, reporting statistics, entering and/or uploading to the LIMS or any other lab software
  • Maintain all instruments in good working condition, including required routine calibration
  • Interface effectively with managers, supervisors, researchers, other technicians, engineers, site HSE and other support staff for the planning and execution of efficient experimental programs with the highest attention to detail and data integrity
  • Focus on contributing a positive attitude, promoting a positive work environment and a high degree of teamwork
  • Exhibit excellent safety leadership in the workplace, consistent with company HSE policies and goals
  • Must have the ability to work with minimal supervision

The right candidate will have/be: 

Education: Post-Secondary School in Science or Engineering

  • A post-secondary education (degree and/or diploma) in a Science related program (Polymer, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Biochemistry, etc.) is a strong asset.
  • Experience in a broad range of analytical techniques is desirable
  • Solid background in computer-based instrument control systems, statistics and Microsoft Office 
  • Ability to learn new software including software for analytical methods
  • Highly self-motivated individual focused on efficiently providing high-quality laboratory data
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, excellent teamwork skills
  • Problem-solving skills and the ability to make competent, independent, decisions on a timely basis to ensure excellent progress on projects and assigned tasks
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors and other employees
