The Opportunity - Alberta based position

The Junior/ Intermediate Instrumentation Technologist will provide instrumentation leadership within our interdisciplinary and innovative project team. The Technologist will be a critical part of our success, ensuring that technical excellence, cost, schedule, and contractual requirements are achieved. The Junior/Intermediate Instrumentation Technologist will report to the Instrumentation Lead and be supported by Senior Instrumentation Technologist.

Key Responsibilities 

As a key contributor to the Kleinfelder team, your responsibilities will include 

  • Collaborating closely with team members to develop innovative technical approaches and solutions for single- and multi-discipline projects.
  • Assisting with instrumentation engineering and design development over the entire project lifecycle through calculations, sketches, drawings, and specifications.  
  • Preparing and revising documentation through all project phases and modifying technical drawings and work plans according to engineering principles and procedures. 
  • Performing instrumentation sizing calculations, including control valve sizing, orifice plate sizing, wake frequency calculations, using standard techniques and specialized software. 
  • Developing project deliverables including instrumentation datasheets, schematics, wiring diagrams, standard details, junction box layouts, bills of materials, instrument layout, control panel layouts, control narratives, shut down keys, and design details. 
  • Performing detailed reviews of codes, standards, and specifications to ensure designs meet all project requirements. 
  • Conduct field reviews to develop project scope, meet with project stakeholders, and verify field conditions. 
  • Providing construction support for projects, including RFI and shop drawing review, and field inspections. 
  • Assisting project managers and senior engineers in developing and managing project scope, budget, and schedule. 
  • Assisting client account managers, project managers, and senior engineers with business development duties as required. 
  • Following developing technologies in instrumentation and control. 
  • Completion of other relevant duties as required.  

Competencies & Skills 

  • Working knowledge of SmartPlant Instrumentation (INtools) datasheet revisions and wiring module
  • Understanding of instrumentation engineering concepts, construction methods, and approaches. 
  • Strong communication, teamwork, and collaboration skills.  
  • Responsive and client service oriented. 
  • Proactive self-starter with an eagerness to learn. 
  • Excellent attention to detail, organization, and time management skills. 
  • Well-developed critical thinking skills, strong analytical abilities and a continuous improvement in mindset. 
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite and PDF editing programs (Bluebeam, Adobe) used to create reports and documents. 
  • Knowledge of CAD design software tools such as AutoCAD, Navisworks, MicroStation, and Revit would be an asset.

Experience & Academic Requirements 

  • Instrumentation Engineering Technologist or equivalent.
  • 0 to 6 years of Instrumentation Engineering experience in oil and gas, EPCM, or related industry.
  • Registration with ASET in the province of Alberta is an asset.

  • Please note that this position may be anywhere from temp/flex to full-time, regular roles.
  • Job is performed in an office environment working with computers and documents for extended periods. Occasional travel may be required, including field work with exposure to hazards such as construction, weather, and industrial operations
