About Junction Recovery Community Centres:

Junction is an inclusive community of diverse people with lived/living experience of substance use and recovery that offers substance use recovery services to adults 19+ in North Vancouver. We support all pathways of recovery and each person's self-defined recovery goals; abstinence is not a requirement for participation. Services are free and include a variety of groups, activities & one-on-one supports in-person or online.

As a Recovery Advocate, you will play a crucial role in helping people in recovery build connections, resiliency, and wellness through the Junction

Location

North Shore Junction Recovery Community Centre, 1645 Lonsdale Avenue, North Vancouver, BC


Days and Hours of work

Tuesday through Saturday 
Shift times will be 11:30 - 19:30 Hours (Tue-Wed) and 10:00 - 18:00 Hours (Thu-Sat) 
Shifts are 7.5 hours in length  
Days of rest shall be consecutive. Schedule may change with two weeks' notice 
Probationary/qualifying period will be 488 hours with mid and end point reviews

Salary

$ depending upon applicants' length of seniority (as per the Collective Agreement)

Job Summary

The Recovery Navigator reports to Site Manager and works in accordance with the mission and philosophy of Lookout Housing and Health Society including following Lookout's Code of Ethics. The Recovery Navigator works with participants to provide assistance, support, education and coaching. Will work with participants to establish and make progress on individualized goals for recovery from substance use. North Shore Junction is a Recovery Community Centre for individuals who are working on, or interested in, recovery from substance use. North Shore Junction is inclusive of those who use substances and are practicing harm reduction. 

Job Duties
  • Will complete in participant intakes and provide support services and assessment
  • Will identify challenges for participants and have regular meetings to assist with building recovery capital
  • Complete required paper work and maintain statistical and evaluative data
  • Assist with volunteers and practicum students on site
  • Some external work is likely to occur. Use of an automobile may at times be useful
  • Case planning 
  • Employees are expected to remain alert and attentive during working hours. Sleeping during shifts is not permitted
  • Responsible for complying with and contributing to all aspects of health and safety program
  • Other duties as required 
Qualifications & Competence
  • Related Diploma or Certificate or minimum Grade 12 education, plus two (2) year of recent related experience or equivalent combination of education, training and experience 
  • Familiarity with North Shore community, local resources, and system navigation for individuals needing services for addiction, mental health and harm reduction. 
  • Must have current OFA 1 First Aid Certificate 
  • Crisis Intervention Skills Training an asset 
  • Class 4 driver's License an asset 
  • Ability to work independently or in a team setting 
  • Strong ability to manage stress and organize workload 
  • Excellent communication, writing and documentation and organizational skills. 
  • Understands and maintain clientele/worker boundaries 
  • Ability to work with disadvantaged and challenging adults in a diverse environment 
  • Quick learner and self-motivated 
  • Strong physical and mental ability to perform work tasks and operate job related equipment. 
  • Minimum of two years sobriety required 
  • Criminal Record Clearance – vulnerable sector
