As a member of an interdisciplinary healthcare team, the Occupational Therapist coordinates, assesses and provides care to patients with neurological conditions. The primary focus for this position is patients living with spinal cord injuries/conditions. The Therapist will communicate and collaborate effectively with the interdisciplinary team members and community agencies in the provision of care. The Occupational Therapist is responsible for the provision of assessments, treatment interventions, program planning and implementation, discharge planning and community liaison.
1. Current registration with the College of Occupational Therapists of Ontario
2. Graduate of an approved School of Occupational Therapy
3. Demonstrated knowledge and experience, within the last 5 years, in the management of rehabilitation patients including those with Stroke, Spinal Cord Injury and Acquired Brain Injury
4. Self-directed, flexible, independent practitioner who is also able to collaborate effectively within an interdisciplinary healthcare team
5. Demonstrated knowledge and experience, within the last 5 years, in the area of seating/positioning for adults
6. Demonstrated leadership ability, strong communication skills, well-developed critical thinking and clinical reasoning skills, as well as a patient and family-centred approach to care
7. Demonstrated experience, within the last 3 years, working collaboratively with and assigning tasks to an occupational therapist assistant and/or other support personnel
8. Demonstrated experience and knowledge in the provision of evidence-based occupational therapy care
9. Demonstrated ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with a wide variety of stake-holder groups including clients, families, support staff/caregivers, management teams and other members within the circle of care
10. Demonstrated knowledge of patient safety procedures/protocols
11. Demonstrated ability to perform repetitive bending, reaching, pushing, lifting and transferring techniques using appropriate body mechanics
12. Demonstrated interest and commitment to supporting student educational opportunities, as well as participating in continuing professional development opportunities, professional practice and program committees and initiatives that support patient care, clinical practice, education and research as approved by Clinical Manager in conjunction with the Chief of Occupational Therapy Practice
13. ADP Authorizer status preferred for wheelchair, positioning and ambulation aids
