Are you an experienced safety professional passionate about leading organizational change? We are seeking a dynamic HSE Specialist to elevate our health, safety, and environmental programs across our two locations. As a key member of our team, you will drive a proactive safety culture, partner with operations, and help shape our company's commitment to excellence.
Key Responsibilities
  • Lead, develop, and implement HSE policies and programs in accordance with industry's best practices and legal requirements.
  • Re-establish and chair safety committee (JHSC) structures and regular meetings.
  • Provide expert advisory support to management, supervisors, and employees on HSE matters.
  • Drive proactive hazard prevention, leading risk assessments, site inspections, and incident investigations.
  • Strengthening training delivery and compliance discipline across all levels of the organization.
  • Foster a visible safety culture through floor presence and active engagement with frontline teams.
  • Partner with operational leaders to build accountability and prepare for audits/risk mitigation.
  • Oversee HSE audits, analyze findings, implement corrective actions, and ensure timely closure of recommendations.
  • Ensure OSSE certification requirements are upheld and maintained throughout the year.
  • Organize, deliver, and track HSE training for all employees, supervisors, and contractors.
  • Maintain and update the HSE Manual, ensuring alignment with changing regulations.
  • Provide safety orientation for new hires, subcontractors, and visitors.
  • Advice on proper equipment use, lockout procedures, and hazardous material handling.
  • Stay abreast of regulatory updates and ensure ongoing compliance with WorkSafeBC and applicable legislation.
  • Analyze and report on HSE metrics to senior leadership.
  • Develop and communicate safety-related memos and recommendations.
  • Champion continuous improvement in all aspects of health, safety, and environment.
Qualifications
  • Post-secondary education in Occupational Health & Safety or a related field
  • Accredited HSE certification
  • 3 years of progressive HSE experience, ideally in transportation, logistics, or manufacturing
  • Proven leadership in re-establishing and leading safety committees/programs
  • Strong working knowledge of WorkSafeBC and relevant federal/provincial regulations
  • Demonstrated ability to influence and partner with operations and leadership teams
  • Experience in incident investigation, risk assessment, and audit preparation
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and SharePoint
  • Self-motivated, adaptable, and passionate about driving positive safety change

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
  • Work is performed in both indoor and outdoor environments, with exposure to various weather conditions and active manufacturing sites.
  • Regular standing, walking, sitting, and speaking are required, along with the use of computers and standard office equipment.
  • Must be able to work effectively within a safety-sensitive environment, adhering to all company safety protocols.
