Job Description

Our Transportation & Utilities department is seeking a Full-time Grader Operator to operate and maintain heavy equipment to ensure County roadways remain safe, accessible, and in good condition. This position plays a key role in supporting road maintenance programs, seasonal operations, and public service delivery. The successful candidate is an experienced equipment operator with strong safety awareness, mechanical aptitude, and commitment to high service standards.

Responsibilities

  • Operate grader and heavy equipment safely and effectively.
  • Perform daily safety inspections and maintenance checks.
  • Clean, maintain, and secure equipment as required.
  • Report equipment repair needs and participate in maintenance activities.
  • Maintain roads, ditches, culverts, and access routes.
  • Perform seasonal road maintenance and snow removal.
  • Ensure proper road drainage and surface conditions.
  • Maintain inventory of tools and equipment.
  • Respond to public inquiries courteously and professionally.
  • Perform other related duties as required.
Qualifications
  • Grade 12 diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum five years of equipment operation experience.
  • Class 5 driver's licence (Class 1 or 3 an asset).
  • Acceptable Driver's Abstract.
  • Knowledge of grader, loaders, dozers, compactors, snow blowers, and related heavy equipment operation.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Ability to operate heavy equipment safely and responsibly.
  • Knowledge of truck and equipment safety standards.
  • Understanding of road construction, snow removal, and maintenance procedures.
  • Equipment maintenance and storage practices.
  • Strong customer service and public relations skills.
  • Analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
  • Ability to maintain records and write daily reports.
  • Time management and stress management skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality under FOIP/ATIA requirements.
Additional Information

This position is Full-Time, working 44 hours per week. Overtime may be required based on operational needs.

The County of Grande Prairie provides a competitive compensation package including benefits, LAPP pension, vacation, and training opportunities within a supportive and engaging work environment.

Pay Rate: $39.40 to $46.35 per hour.
