Position Overview:
As a Field Service Technician specializing in cheese making and cutting and packaging equipment, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the smooth operation, maintenance, and repair of our specialized cheese production machinery. Your expertise in mechanical systems and dedication to precision will contribute to the consistent quality and efficiency of our client’s cheese manufacturing processes. This role demands a thorough understanding of dairy manufacturing equipment, strong problem-solving abilities, a team focused mentality, and a commitment to upholding safety and hygiene standards in a dynamic production environment.
Responsibilities:
To support the dynamic growth of its U.S. business, ALPMA USA is currently looking for a field service technician for the following tasks:
- *Service interventions: *Organization, execution and follow up of service interventions as a service team member at customer sites in North America and Canada
- *Installations: *Support equipment installations at customer sites in North America (as part of an international team of technicians/experts).
- *Troubleshooting & Repairs:* Diagnose mechanical malfunctions, breakdowns, and irregularities in cheese production machinery. Develop effective solutions and perform timely repairs to minimize downtime and production interruptions.
- *Emergency Support:* Promptly respond to emergency service calls, efficiently resolving urgent equipment issues to minimize production downtime and ensure seamless operations.
- *Remote Support:* Assist in troubleshooting and providing remote support to clients via telephone, laptop, and software-connected devices, while effectively utilizing a client support ticket system for centralized data management.
- *Documentation:* Generating detailed records of maintenance activities, repairs, utilized parts, and equipment performance. Updating of equipment manuals and document standard operating procedures as needed.
*- Technical Training:* Assist in training production staff on basic equipment maintenance and troubleshooting procedures to enhance their understanding of machinery and improve overall efficiency.
- *Consult & Support:* Support customers in the development of maintenance programs and the purchase of spare parts.
- *Continuous Improvement:* Identify opportunities for process improvements and equipment upgrades, offering valuable insights to optimize the overall cheese production process.
- *Travel:* Being ready to travel nationwide and occasionally internationally (passport required), with the ability to be on the road for over 65% of working hours.
Candidate profile:
ALPMA USA is looking for an experienced technician offering:
- *Education:* A trades apprenticeship in a related field (Electro Mech., Industrial Mechanical) or college degree equivalent along with 3+ year’s-experience.
Optionally,5+ years of related experience and proven performance in mechanical service interventions may be acceptable in lieu of a degree or journeyman’s certificate.
- *Experience:* Strong mechanical and basic electrical experience working in the industrial/ mechanical equipment industry (food-, chemical-, pharmaceutical-, packaging, industrial automatization- or similar industry).
*- Safety awareness: *Industrial safety training OSHA 10 or 40 preferred. Knowledge of potential and possible hazards in tool handling, equipment operation and environmental circumstances regarding personal safety is a must.
- *Mechanical Proficiency:* Strong mechanical aptitude with hands-on experience in diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining industrial machinery. Familiarity with PLCs and automation systems is a plus.
- *Food Safety Awareness:* Strong knowledge of food safety and sanitation regulations, including Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), with a focus on dairy processing equipment and hygiene practices.
- *Technical comprehension:* Ability to understand mechanical design drawings as well as blueprints of complex production lines including layouts, pneumatic + electrical plans and P&IDs.
- *Problem-Solving Skills:* Ability to analyze complex mechanical issues, troubleshoot problems systematically, and implement effective solutions under time constraints.
- *Communication:* Excellent communication skills to collaborate with cross-functional teams, provide clear instructions, and document maintenance activities accurately, and effectively communicate with clients both in person and via email.
- *Physical Stamina:* Able to perform physically demanding tasks, such as lifting heavy objects and working in diverse production environments. Capable of lifting 15 pounds while standing or bending at a 45-degree angle, frequently lifting 25 pounds, and occasionally lifting up to 75 pounds. For weights exceeding 75 pounds, tasks are completed with the assistance of two or more employees.
- *Flexibility:* Willingness to work flexible hours, including weekends and occasional overtime, to accommodate production schedules and equipment needs.
- *Driving License:* Valid driver's license and clean driving record for on-site service visits and emergency support.
- *Computer Proficiency: *Proficient in using software applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint for creating reports, collecting data, and developing presentations. Skilled in utilizing email platforms for effective communication, report distribution, and responding to inquiries. Experienced in recording and tracking expenses related to service activities and travel. Knowledgeable in remote access platforms, including TeamViewer, UltraVNC, Rockwell Automation, Siemens, Schneider technologies, and other relevant software.

Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $26.00 - $33.00 per hour
