Overview Join our team as a Lead Virtual Desktop Solutions Engineer to enhance and manage our enterprise virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) in a government contracting context. This remote role is pivotal in the engineering, automation, and maintenance of Citrix-based virtual desktop solutions integrated with AWS and Microsoft Endpoint Configuration Manager (MECM). Responsibilities We are looking for a candidate who possesses extensive technical knowledge in Citrix XenApp/XenDesktop, excellent scripting and automation abilities, and experience in regulated environments. This is an advanced individual role focused on hands-on engineering rather than personnel management. Key Responsibilities: Engineer, maintain, and optimize Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops (XenApp/XenDesktop) environments. Support enterprise VDI platforms in government or regulated settings. Design and implement automation processes for VDI provisioning, configuration, and lifecycle management. Develop scripts and automation for system creation within Citrix and AWS environments. Integrate VDI solutions with Microsoft Endpoint Configuration Manager (MECM) for imaging, patching, application deployment, and compliance. Administer and troubleshoot Windows desktop and server operating systems in VDI environments. Support hybrid architectures that integrate on-premises infrastructure with AWS services. Conduct advanced troubleshooting across OS, application, virtualization, network, and storage layers. Generate performance capacity and usage reports to enhance optimization strategies. Apply security hardening, access controls, and compliance measures in line with government standards. Create and maintain technical documentation, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and system diagrams. Contribute to change management, patch cycles, and system sustainment initiatives. Qualifications Bachelor's degree with 12+ years of desktop engineering experience or equivalent. 7+ years of expertise in virtual desktop engineering, end-user computing (EUC), or enterprise virtualization. Deep, hands-on experience with Citrix XenApp and XenDesktop (Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops). Experience in managing and supporting NetScaler and NetScaler Console. Proficient in maintaining large-scale or mission-critical VDI environments. Strong scripting skills with languages like PowerShell, Python, and Bash. Proven experience in automating system builds and configurations in Citrix and AWS. Familiarity with Microsoft Endpoint Configuration Manager (MECM). Solid understanding of Windows Server and Windows Desktop operating systems. Knowledge of security and certificate management. Experience with Active Directory, Group Policy, and identity services. Experience in government contracting or compliance-driven environments is preferred. Familiarity with database management. Ability to coordinate with Tier 4 vendors when necessary. Strong analytical and troubleshooting capabilities. Eligibility to maintain a Public Trust clearance. Preferred Qualifications Citrix certifications (e.g., CC-V, CC-P, CC-E or equivalent). AWS certifications (e.g., AWS Certified Solutions Architect, SysOps Administrator). Experience with configuration management tools (e.g., Ansible, DSC). Familiarity with STIGs, NIST, or similar compliance frameworks. Experience with Nvidia GPU-enabled virtual desktop environments. Posted Salary Range The salary range for this position is USD $124,540.00 - USD $160,000.00 per year. Actual base pay may vary based on several individualized factors, including location, knowledge, skills, education, experience, and internal equity. Total compensation could include additional elements, discussed during the hiring process. The employee will be in an "at-will position," and GovCIO reserves the right to modify any compensation components at any time.
