Salary: Approximately £45,000
Your Mission:As a Senior Structural Engineer in our Shock & Dynamics team, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the resilience of our vessels against Naval Shock Requirements. Here’s what you’ll be doing:
- Develop, interpret, and maintain Naval Shock Requirements, ensuring clarity and proper flow-down to systems, equipment, and suppliers.
- Manage and maintain Verification and Validation evidence to demonstrate compliance with Naval Shock Requirements throughout the product lifecycle.
- Review and assess shock qualification evidence from suppliers and internal teams, ensuring robustness and technical credibility.
- Conduct detailed stress assessments of equipment and structural components under pseudo-static shock loading, identifying risks and recommending mitigations.
- Support the planning and execution of shock testing activities, defining loading conditions, monitoring outcomes, and reviewing test results.
- Apply internal processes and standards rigorously, producing clear, auditable evidence of compliance through formal calculations and technical reports.
- Contribute to the early identification and resolution of technical issues, supporting continuous improvement and risk reduction.
Essential:
- A degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related STEM discipline.
- A solid understanding of structural mechanics and dynamics principles, with the ability to apply them to real-world engineering challenges.
- Knowledge of material strength behavior, including elastic and plastic properties, and their influence on structural performance.
Desirable:
- Familiarity with Finite Element Analysis (FEA) tools and techniques for structural assessment and validation.
- Exposure to or understanding of Fluid-Structure Interaction (FSI) concepts.
- A clear ambition to work towards professional chartership, with a commitment to ongoing technical and professional development.

Our Shock Transversal team is crucial in ensuring our vessels maintain functionality after experiencing shock loading from Naval Underwater Explosion Events (UNDEX). As a Senior Structural Engineer, you’ll be at the forefront of this mission, engaging in hands-on engineering analysis, structural calculations, and specialist Naval Shock Testing. You’ll collaborate with a diverse range of stakeholders, providing expert shock design guidance while benefiting from strong mentorship and development opportunities in this specialized field.
