These systems empower real-time personalized decision-making across both digital and assisted channels. By utilizing predictive modeling, optimization algorithms, and contextual data, you will help us identify the most relevant next actions for individuals at scale with minimal latency while ensuring high standards of reliability and explainability. Your focus will be on production machine learning engineering. You'll take the lead in creating ML pipelines, online inference services, and decision-time scoring logic, employing AI-assisted and agentic solutions to enhance development speed, model quality, and operational effectiveness. Key Responsibilities Machine Learning System Design & Architecture Design and manage comprehensive end-to-end machine learning systems, including: Feature engineering and reuse strategies Offline training pipelines Online inference and scoring services Model versioning, rollout, and rollback procedures Ensure that systems meet high benchmarks for latency, scalability, reliability, and correctness in real-time contexts. Clearly separate model development, deployment, and downstream decision logic. Focused Modeling for Decision Making Develop and operationalize models such as: Propensity or likelihood predictions Uplift or incremental impact models Engagement or responsiveness scores Create models that are composable, explainable, and robust for automated decision workflows. Work with analytics and product teams to convert business objectives into measurable modeling outcomes. Efficiency through AI-Enabled Approaches Implement AI-assisted and agentic strategies to enhance ML engineering productivity, including: Automated code generation and refactoring for pipelines and services Feature exploration and validation Intelligent experiment tracking and comparison Enhanced debugging and root-cause analysis Evaluate and adopt contemporary tools to accelerate experimentation, reduce manual workload, and ensure reliable model operations. Focus on applying practical and production-ready AI tools. MLOps & Model Operations Establish and maintain strong MLOps practices, including: Continuous training and deployment pipelines Online model monitoring for latency, drift, and stability Safe rollout strategies (e.g., canary, shadow, phased releases) Fallback mechanisms for model degradation or unavailability Ensure model outputs are traceable, reproducible, and auditable. Collaboration & Leadership Act as the technical lead for ML engineering, developing standards and best practices. Collaborate with software engineers, data engineers, and platform teams to ensure smooth integration of ML systems into production. Mentor other machine learning engineers and help enhance the overall maturity of our engineering teams. Influence architectural decisions to ensure testability, observability, and resilience. Role Significance As reliance on automated and intelligent decision-making expands, the integrity of machine learning engineering becomes essential to fostering organizational trust, enhancing performance, and improving user experiences. This role focuses on ensuring that machine learning systems are not only accurate but also reliable, interpretable, and efficient to develop and maintain. Make an Impact with Your Skills Required Qualifications 8+ years of experience in machine learning engineering, applied ML, or data-driven platform development 3+ years in a technical lead or senior ML engineering role Deep expertise in: Feature engineering and data pipelines Model training and evaluation Real-time or near-real-time inference systems Strong software engineering skills in Python, Java, or similar languages Hands-on experience with AI-assisted development tools to optimize ML workflows Preferred Qualifications Experience with personalization, recommendation, or decisioning platforms Familiarity with distributed systems and event-driven architectures Experience deploying models in regulated or high-reliability environments Knowledge of model explainability and fairness methodologies Success Criteria Models consistently deliver reliable performance in real-time decision-making workflows ML systems scale effectively without excessive operational burdens Experimentation cycles are efficient, repeatable, and measurable Engineering teams trust model outputs and their transparency AI-assisted tools lead to measurable improvements in both development speed and model quality Additional Information SSN Alert Statement Humana values personal identity protection. Scheduled Weekly Hours 40 Pay Range The compensation range below represents a good faith estimate of starting base pay for full-time (40 hours per week) employment at the time of posting. The pay range may vary based on geographic location and individual qualifications such as demonstrated job-related skills, experience, and education, among other factors. $129,300 - $177,800 per year This position is eligible for a bonus incentive plan, which is contingent upon company and/or individual performance.
