Examples of Duties The IT Director plays a critical role in supporting effective municipal operations by providing strategic and operational leadership for the City's information technology services. This position is responsible for overseeing the planning, implementation, security, and day-to-day operation of the City's technology systems, ensuring they reliably support service delivery, internal operations, and organizational goals.In addition to managing IT staff, budgets, cybersecurity, data governance, and disaster- recovery capabilities, the IT Director oversees technology services delivered through shared-service and intergovernmental arrangements. The position works closely with executive leadership, elected officials, department heads, vendors, and external partners to ensure technology solutions are secure, efficient, cost-effective, and responsive to the needs of the City and the community. Qualifications Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Information Systems, Business Administration, Public Administration, or a related field. Six or more years of progressively responsible experience in information technology, including enterprise systems, cybersecurity, and technology service delivery. At least two years of supervisory or management experience. Municipal or public-sector experience is preferred. Professional certifications in IT, cybersecurity, project management, or continuous improvement (e.g., Lean or Six Sigma) are preferred but not required. Any combination of education, training, and experience that demonstrates the ability to successfully perform the duties of the position will be considered. A valid Wisconsin driver's license is required upon appointment and throughout employment. Method of Selection & Supplemental Information
This position is considered open until filled with the first review of resumes to begin
March 2, 2026 . The first step in the selection process will be a phone screen. Qualified candidates will undergo interviews and evaluations of job-related experience, including written, oral, and performance tests, or other assessment methods. The City reserves the right to call only the most qualified candidates to the oral and performance examinations. Oral examinations may include written exercises. Final candidate selection will be completed by the Common Council. Successful candidates are subject to an extensive background check (including, but not limited to, verification of education credentials, certificates, licensures; employment history; credit check; driver's license and police criminal background check) and must pass a post-offer drug screen as a condition of employment.
