Principal Structural Engineer (Grange-over-Sands)

Salary: Circa £60,000

• Analyze and design complex steel structures using Eurocodes, British Standards, and BAE standards to support submarine builds.
• Utilize your knowledge of specific regulations and requirements beyond BAE Systems, including LOLER, codes of compliance, weld specifications, and geometric tolerance.
• Be competent in computer-based analytical techniques, including finite element analysis, CAD modeling, and engineering schematics (Abaqus, S-Frame).
• Support the manufacturing, assembly, lifting, handling, and installation processes of submarine structures, modules, and components.
• Contribute to the production of concept drawings, layouts, and other technical outputs that meet contractual requirements, target dates, and budget demands.
• Take responsibility for approvals, checking analysis, and outputs.

Essential:

• Experience in undertaking structural calculations.
• Understanding of the principles of structural mechanics and dynamics.
• Experience in developing structural requirements and V&V evidence.
• Proficiency in using Finite Element Analysis (FEA) software.
• Ability to present technical arguments clearly and simply.
• Previous experience in checking and approving work.

Desirable:

• Knowledge of Abaqus FEA and Simcenter, or a willingness to learn.
• Chartered Engineer status (or on the path to becoming Chartered).
• Experience in generating toolsets/calculation templates.

As a Principal Engineer, you'll be part of a dynamic dual-function team (design and engineering) of around 14 professionals at varying levels of seniority. This team is dedicated to delivering engineering assessments that support the build process, collaborating closely with design colleagues to develop equipment and provide operational support for the production of safety-critical systems.

We also offer opportunities for overtime and local commuting support to assist with your daily travel. Relocation support packages are available for all roles, subject to eligibility criteria.
