Job Description
The Department Operations Assistant will support the day-to-day management of the department of Sociology ensuring smooth operations and effective communication. This role involves administrative support, communication and information management, student support and academic progress, event coordination and engagement, and faculty support. The ideal candidate will be organized, proactive, and capable of managing multiple tasks in a dynamic academic environment.
Required Qualifications
- Demonstrated experience working with people in an environment that serves and/or develops others such as the fields of higher education or event management
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Commitment to establishing positive, productive working relationships with various groups of constituents
- Demonstrated abilities in organizing a wide range of tasks efficiently and effectively
- Experience designing and implementing programs, events, and/or educational activities
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent training/experience
- Familiarity with record-keeping software utilized by Virginia Tech
- Experience maintaining websites, managing social media, and supporting communications strategy for a public-facing organization
