Job Summary
We are seeking a Senior Systems Engineer to lead the design, implementation, and management of complex IT infrastructure and system solutions in support of the Veteran's Affairs. The ideal candidate will possess deep expertise in system architecture, cloud security, and software development practices, with a strong focus on delivering scalable, secure, and efficient systems. This role offers an opportunity to work on cutting-edge projects involving cloud platforms, modernization, virtualization, and enterprise-level system integration within a dynamic environment.
Duties
- Design, develop, and maintain enterprise software applications and RESTful APIs in Microsoft .NET and ASP.NET Core environments, supporting interoperability and performance across the EASS eCMS application portfolio
- Support modernization initiatives by migrating legacy, ETL-dependent solutions to real-time, source-driven data architectures, improving performance, reducing latency, and supporting VA's long-term technical roadmap
- Implement secure, resilient code aligned to VA security policies and DevSecOps best practices; remediate vulnerabilities early in the lifecycle to support compliance and application protection requirements
- Participate in full Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) activities, including requirements analysis, design, development, testing, verification, documentation, and deployment in accordance with VA SDLC standards and release engineering expectations
- Develop, update, and maintain application components supporting AAMS, EPIC, EPIC Web Services, Vendor Web Services, eVP, ASB interfaces, and other eCMS applications as required to sustain and improve functionality
- Support configuration management, version control, and controlled releases using Azure DevOps branching strategies, code reviews, pull requests, build pipelines, and coordinated deployment activities
- Develop and maintain automated test scripts and frameworks, including Selenium and API/service-level automated testing, to improve quality assurance, system reliability, and release readiness
- Support Section 508 and accessibility compliance activities by designing and enhancing application functionality to meet WCAG accessibility requirements and improve usability for all users
- Prepare, review, and contribute to technical documentation including release notes, requirements traceability, deployment plans, integration artifacts, and technical references supporting VA technical teams and stakeholders
- Collaborate in Agile development cycles, participating in sprint planning, grooming, daily standups, reviews, demonstrations, and retrospectives to ensure timely, quality delivery of functional capabilities
- Provide production support assistance and serve as a technical resource during deployments, outages, issue resolution, and defect remediation to ensure operational continuity and user readiness
- Coordinate with cross-functional VA teams including business analysts, testers, system administrators, O&M teams, security teams, and program stakeholders to deliver scalable, reliable, and mission-aligned technical solutions
Requirements
- Masters degree in a technical field. (10 additional years of directly relevant experience may be considered in lieu of meeting the degree requirement.)
- 10+ years of relevant experience
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance at the Tier 2 (Moderate Risk) level (active preferred).
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $70, $80,000.00 per year
