Recently honored as a "Best Places to Work in Manufacturing" by our employees, we are seeking an exceptional Engineering Manager to help shape the future of our organization. The Engineering Manager leads a team of seven engineers and technical specialists responsible for processing custom orders for overhead cranes and fall protection systems. This role oversees day-to-day engineering operations while driving innovation through research and development initiatives and expanding process automation across the department. The Engineering Manager ensures that all projects meet customer specifications, comply with industry standards, and support the company's strategic goals for efficiency, quality, and continuous improvement.
Primary Job Functions
- Lead, mentor, and develop a team of 7 engineers/designers, fostering a culture of collaboration, accountability, and technical excellence
- Manage workload distribution, project prioritization, and department performance metrics with a focus on efficient turnaround times on job orders
- Assist the engineering team in processing orders when necessary, checking the work of others when applicable, ensuring it aligns with safety regulations, manufacturing capabilities, and engineering standards
- Conduct performance evaluations, establish development plans, and support continuous skill enhancement of the team
- Collaborate closely with Sales, Production, Quality, and Project Management teams to ensure timely and accurate product realization
- Lead R&D initiatives to improve designs, develop new products and features, and explore emerging technologies
- Identify opportunities for cost reduction
- Drive automation strategies to streamline engineering workflows
- Approve engineering drawings, calculations, and specifications
Additional Job Functions
- Champion continuous improvement efforts using Lean, Six Sigma, or similar methodologies
- Perform technical and mathematical computations to calculate structural sizes of project components
- Work in conjunction with the Exec. VP and HR in the selection and training of personnel
Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Mechanical or Structural Engineering
- 7+ years of Engineering experience, preferably in industrial products
- 3+ years of team management experience
- General engineering and architectural drafting techniques, terminology, methods, and practices
- Electromechanical product knowledge
- Proficiency with CAD software
- Exceptional organization and management skills
- Customer service focus
Certifications
- Professional Engineering license preferred
Required Testing
- Mechanical Aptitude and Personality assessments required
Physical Requirements
- The position requires sitting for extended periods of time, occasionally talking to vendors and customers on the phone, and occasional trips into the factory to discuss components or projects with shop personnel.
Work Environment
- The workplace is a clean, well-maintained office environment.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $135, $150,000.00 per year
