The
Customer Service Engineer, ESS
will join the Energy Storage Services group. In this role, you'll provide post-installation technical support and troubleshooting for containerized battery energy storage systems deployed across commercial, industrial, and utility-scale projects. You'll serve as the technical liaison for customers, analyzing performance data, resolving system issues, and ensuring high levels of satisfaction through responsive, professional communication.
This is a hands-on role suited for a technically skilled and customer-oriented professional who enjoys problem-solving, field collaboration, and continuous improvement in one of the fastest-growing areas of clean energy.
What You'll Do
- Act as the primary technical contact for customers, handling product performance and service requests across operational energy storage sites.
- Investigate and resolve technical issues related to system performance, control logic, and environmental conditions.
- Analyze BMS and system logs to identify trends, alarms, or fault sequences that could affect performance.
- Lead troubleshooting efforts, providing clear guidance to field service partners or internal teams to resolve issues quickly and safely.
- Support warranty claims, documentation, and root-cause analysis activities for battery modules, racks, and containerized systems.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with engineering, quality, and operations teams to drive corrective actions and preventive improvements.
- Prepare clear, customer-facing technical summaries and service reports.
- Maintain accurate records of service cases, site visits, and lessons learned to support future reliability initiatives.
- Contribute to safety, training, and best-practice development for ongoing operations and maintenance.
The Ideal Candidate Will Have
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Energy Engineering—or equivalent technical experience.
- 3–8 years of hands-on experience in energy storage, renewable energy, or industrial electrical systems.
- Strong understanding of battery system architecture, including BMS, HVAC, fire safety, and thermal management systems.
- Experience diagnosing electrical and communication issues in high-voltage DC or grid-connected systems.
- Proven ability to interpret data logs, alarms, and technical documentation to determine root causes.
- Customer-first mindset with excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in fast-paced, field-driven environments.
- Familiarity with electrical safety procedures, PPE standards, and lockout/tagout protocols.
- Authorized to work in the U.S. and willing to travel up to 40% nationwide.
Preferred Background
- Prior experience supporting containerized or modular battery systems.
- Understanding of Power Conversion Systems (PCS), Energy Management Systems (EMS), and grid interconnection.
- Exposure to PLC logic, control systems, or fire-safety controls.
- Experience performing Root Cause Analysis or structured problem-solving (5 Whys, FMEA, Fishbone).
- Familiarity with renewable projects such as PV, wind, or hybrid systems.
- Safety certifications such as OSHA 30, NFPA 70E, or equivalent.
- Bilingual or multilingual communication ability (Korean a plus, not required)
Compensation & Benefits
- Base salary range: Flexible depending on experience, typically in the
$90,000–$130,000
