This role provides technical leadership and operational oversight for DevOps engineering functions including CI/CD automation, infrastructure-as-code (IaC), configuration management, patching and deployment automation, and scalable provisioning workflows. The DevOps Team Lead serves as a senior technical escalation point and strategic contributor, partnering closely with Infrastructure, Security, and Application teams to ensure reliable, compliant, and efficient enterprise operations. This role is accountable for driving standardization, improving automation maturity, and delivering measurable outcomes across patch compliance, deployment success, and operational efficiency.Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesTechnical Leadership & StrategyLead DevOps engineering initiatives to modernize and standardize enterprise automation, deployment, and patch management processes.Define and maintain DevOps operational standards, technical patterns, and best practices for CI/CD, IaC, and configuration management.Develop and execute a long-term automation roadmap to achieve minimal-touch operations, improved self-service capabilities, and reduced manual intervention.Evaluate new automation tools and platforms; recommend improvements and migration strategies aligned to enterprise architecture and security requirements.CI/CD, Infrastructure Automation & Configuration ManagementLead the design, implementation, and maintenance of CI/CD pipelines leveraging Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) and version-controlled automation.Oversee integration and operational support of enterprise configuration management platforms (e.g., Ansible, Salt, SCCM, or equivalent tools).Drive automation of end-to-end workflows across software packaging, testing, deployment, patching, and validation.Establish repeatable processes for deployment quality, pipeline reliability, and failure recovery/rollback practices.
Establish and maintain release readiness standards for OS images and packaged applications, including mandatory validation testing and formal sign-off criteria prior to production deployment.
Oversee integration of UAT processes into CI/CD pipelines, ensuring automated testing coverage for installation validation, regression testing, security benchmarking, and patch verification.
Coordinate with QA, Engineering, and Release Management to align packaging/image release cycles with broader enterprise release milestones and change management requirements.Enterprise Patching, Deployment & ComplianceLead planning, scheduling, and execution of OS and application patching cycles aligned with enterprise change-management policies.Ensure patching workflows are integrated into CI/CD pipelines, automation tools, and configuration management systems.Provide leadership and coordination during emergency patching events for critical vulnerabilities and zero-day threats.Maintain visibility into patch status, deployment success, and compliance reporting through dashboards, operational metrics, and audit-ready documentation.Ensure deployments are validated through post-implementation testing and appropriately documented for compliance, customer assurance, and audit support.OS and Application Packaging OversightProvide technical oversight and governance for OS imaging, application packaging, and deployment engineering practices across Windows and Linux environments.Establish and enforce standardized OS/image and application packaging processes to ensure repeatability, compliance, and operational quality.Act as escalation point for complex packaging failures, image integrity issues, and deployment defects impacting endpoint readiness or release schedules.Define gold image refresh standards, baselines, and release cadence (quarterly or as required for critical remediation), ensuring alignment with enterprise security and patch compliance requirements.Review and approve gold image releases based on UAT results, vulnerability validation, and deployment readiness criteria.Ensure image pipelines include rollback strategies and version control traceability to meet audit requirements.Ensure OS image and application packaging deliverables include complete documentation (dependencies, build notes, validation results, deployment/rollback instructions) stored in approved knowledge-management systems.Establish documentation quality standards and audit-ready packaging practices to ensure traceability across all endpoint build workflows.Provisioning & Platform OperationsEnsure automation tooling integrates effectively across VMware, cloud platforms, and hybrid infrastructure provisioning workflows.Lead support and continuous improvement of PXE/iPXE bare-metal provisioning, including driver management, hardware compatibility, and imaging platform integration.Expand automation practices across virtualization environments and Citrix/VDI systems where feasible and aligned with enterprise operational requirements.Provide oversight for VMware template creation, versioning, hardening, and lifecycle maintenance to ensure all templates remain current, compliant, and operationally optimized.Ensure OS and template standards integrate with vCenter/ESXi provisioning workflows and enterprise automation toolchains.Troubleshoot and resolve complex issues across Windows, Linux, macOS, VMware, and cloud platforms, serving as a senior escalation resource for customer-impacting incidents.Team Leadership & Operational OversightCollaborate with internal stakeholders to define scope, timelines, and operational deliverables for infrastructure automation initiatives.Provide day-to-day leadership, guidance, and technical mentorship to DevOps engineers and supporting team members.Lead workload planning, prioritization, and coordination of DevOps operational tasks and project initiatives.Participate in on-call and escalation rotations as required, ensuring appropriate response coordination and post-incident follow-up (RCA / corrective actions).Maintain and enforce documentation standards including SOPs, runbooks, and automation repositories to support operational continuity and knowledge transfer.Additional Duties and ResponsibilitiesPromote and support a collaborative team culture and strong cross-functional communication across Infrastructure, Security, and Application teams.Support DevOps team operations using approved communication tools, tracking systems, and documentation platforms.Participate in change management activities and ensure team compliance with internal processes, standards, and customer expectations.Escalate service or project risks/issues that may impact delivery timelines, service levels, or system reliability.Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:5 10 years of professional experience in DevOps, Systems Engineering, or Infrastructure Operations in large-scale enterprise environments.Demonstrated leadership experience (technical lead, senior engineer, team lead, or comparable role), including mentoring and oversight responsibilities.Strong experience designing and supporting CI/CD pipelines using one or more platforms (GitLab CI, Jenkins, GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps).Strong experience implementing Infrastructure-as-Code (Terraform preferred; Ansible Automation required; CloudFormation a plus).Advanced scripting skills in PowerShell and at least one of Bash or Python; ability to build maintainable automation and operational tooling.Strong understanding of OS deployment, software packaging/deployment, vulnerability remediation, patch management operations, validation, and compliance reporting.Working knowledge of Linux patching and package management (YUM, DNF, APT).Hands-on experience with VMware virtualization and hybrid environments, including provisioning workflows in large-scale operations.Familiarity with PXE/iPXE boot environments and bare-metal provisioning processes.Strong troubleshooting skills and ability to lead incident response efforts for automation, deployment, and patching issues.Knowledge of enterprise change management, security best practices, and audit requirements.Highly organized, self-motivated, and able to work effectively in a fast-paced environment with shifting priorities. Education/Experience:Bachelors degree (BA/BS) in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or related field preferred.Equivalent professional experience in combination with Technical Training and applicable Certifications may be considered in lieu of a degree.Application ProcessInterested candidates are encouraged to submit their resumes and cover letters detailing their relevant experience and qualifications.
