The Software Developer II / DevOps Engineer is responsible for designing, developing, testing, deploying, and supporting enterprise-level web and mobile applications. This role combines software engineering with modern DevOps practices to ensure efficient, reliable, and automated deployment processes across cloud and on-premise environments. The position supports city operations and collaborates with Agile teams to deliver high-quality solutions.
Job duties include but are not limited to:
Design, develop, and maintain cross-platform mobile applications using React Native and web applications using
Implement and manage CI/CD pipelines using Azure DevOps to automate build, testing, and deployment processes.
Configure deployment workflows to AWS Lambda and S3 for web applications.
Oversee automated delivery workflows for mobile applications to the Apple App Store and Google Play Store.
Participate in Agile Scrum teams to transform business requirements into technical solutions.
Develop front-end and back-end components, APIs, web services, and integration services.
Perform system configuration, storyboarding, technical documentation, and unit/system testing.
Monitor and troubleshoot production systems to ensure high availability and performance.
Perform continuous vulnerability assessments and risk management.
Define and manage DevOps operations, including release, update, and support processes.
Mentor and guide junior developers and team members.
This position offers a remote/hybrid work schedule arrangement within the Virginia and North Carolina surrounding areas. Minimum Requirements:
MINIMUMS: Requires any combination of education (above the high school level) and/or experience equivalent to eight (8) years in fields utilizing the required knowledge, skills and abilities, and associated with such positions as full stack developer, software developer, application developer, software engineer; or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: All employees may be expected to work hours in excess of their normally scheduled hours in response to short-term department needs and/or City-wide emergencies. Alpha I Status: Positions within this class have been designated as Alpha I positions requiring employees to work during inclement weather, regardless of the City's operational status.

Preferences:
Experience working on a security or network operations team
Knowledge of data base, network, virtualization, public cloud computing, OT operations, concepts & design
Knowledge of information and data security and privacy principles and best practices
Experience reviewing, prioritizing and triaging cybersecurity and/or network alerts
Experience configuring alert criteria in a monitoring system
Experince adding devices, systems/services to network, application/service monitoring systems
