Position Overview

The Bookkeeper / Office Manager will be responsible for accurately processing weekly payroll for field and office employees, ensuring compliance with federal and state regulations, and maintaining accurate records. They will help oversee our back office AP/AR responsibilities alongside our accounting team. This role requires strong attention to detail, confidentiality, and the ability to work collaboratively with HR, accounting, and operations teams. They will also manage our office as we move to a new location, continue to grow and hire into our office.

Key Responsibilities

  • Process weekly payroll for hourly and salaried employees, including field crews across multiple job sites.
  • Verify timecards, job coding, and project allocations for accuracy and completeness.
  • Maintain employee payroll records and ensure compliance with company policies and wage laws.
  • Administer deductions such as benefits, garnishments, and 401(k) contributions.
  • Prepare and submit payroll tax filings and support year-end reporting (W-2s, 1099s, etc.).
  • Reconcile payroll reports with accounting and job cost systems.
  • Respond to employee payroll inquiries promptly and professionally.
  • Support HR and accounting teams with AP/AR activities
  • Manage office activities and onboard new hires
  • Ad hoc office responsibilities

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of payroll experience, preferably in construction, contracting, or field-based industries.
  • Strong understanding of federal and Texas payroll laws, including prevailing wage and certified payroll (a plus).
  • Proficiency with payroll systems (e.g., QuickBooks, Sunburst, TxDOT).
  • Excellent attention to detail, organization, and time management skills.
  • Strong communication and problem-solving abilities.
  • Experience managing an office and leading teams
  • High level of confidentiality and integrity.

Preferred Skills

  • Familiarity with certified payroll reporting for public works projects.
  • Intermediate to advanced Excel skills.

Pay: $72, $90,000.00 per year
