Summary:
The CNO is a member of the multiple facility Senior Management Team responsible for implementing the hospital(s) Strategic Plan. Serves as the facility Chief Nursing Officer. The AVP, CNO has direct line authority responsibilities and matrix responsibilities in nursing practice and team members within the facility(facilities) of responsibility
The AVP, Chief Nursing Officer shall plan, organize, direct, and monitor the activities of the Nursing Division and assigned departments. The CNO is responsible for providing Executive Leadership to the nurses of the facility by facilitating the delivery of one standard of nursing care.
The AVP, CNO is responsible for assuring that nursing policies are developed consistently and observed. This leader is also responsible for the development of appropriate departmental policies and procedures, as well as to assist to establish Standards of Nursing Care for Nursing Services. Supports system initiatives through active participation in the Nursing Institute CNO Council for Ballad Health for the planning and implementation for improving nurse recruitment and retention for Ballad Health, and standardization of evidence-based clinical practice across the health system for optimal patient care. Works with other system facility CNOs and service line leaders to establish Standards of Care for Nursing Services that are consistent throughout Ballad Health.
The AVP/CNO shall ensure the continuous and timely availability of nursing services to all patients. The CNO is accountable for coordinating nursing and other assigned departments compliance with all pertinent JCAHO Standards, state board of nursing, and with local, state, and federal regulations.
As an integral part of the management team, the CNO is required to participate in performance improvement programs and to cooperate with interdepartmental projects to improve quality of service and reduce cost. The CNO is accountable for practicing fiscal responsibility by developing realistic annual Operating and Capital Budgets, conserving resources, and monitoring expenditures to ensure they remain within budgeted parameters. This position is responsible for flexing staffing to comply with productivity standards. The CNO will ensure that departmental facilities and equipment are regularly inspected and maintained in optimum operating condition.
This leader is responsible for assisting with retention/recruitment plans of Ballad Health. The CNO is responsible for maintaining the qualified staff needed to provide quality services and for monitoring the activities of subordinate managers and supervisors; to ensure that ongoing educational opportunities, including attendance at Ballad-wide programs, are provided; and that employees are treated with dignity, fairness, and consistency.
The CNO is accountable for maintaining harmonious interactions between departments and personnel and their customers including patients, family members, visitors, physicians, clergy, other employees and the general public. The CNO is accountable for maintaining technical expertise and development of leadership skills through ongoing education.
Requirements:
Bachelors' Degree from an accredited nursing program is required. Master's degree in nursing (MSN), health care administration, or business (MBA) is required. Consideration will be given to candidates currently enrolled in a program to achieve these degrees.
Minimum five years progressive responsibility experience in health care, including three years in a supervisory role.
The incumbent will be required to update technical expertise and to develop management/leadership skills through continuing education throughout tenure in this position.
Licenses and Certifications:
Valid and active RN licensure in appropriate state. Valid and active Nurse Executive certification preferred. AHA BLS required
