Pastry Assistant-On Call

Job Description:

Work closely with Pastry Chef and support the pastry team by preparing high-quality desserts, baked goods, and pastry components for banquets, daily service, and special events. This role is ideal for someone looking to gain experience in a hotel pastry department with potential growth opportunities. The Pastry Assistant ensures all products meet established standards for taste, texture, and presentation while maintaining a clean and organized workstation.

Key Responsibilities:

• Prepare and execute pastry items including cakes, tarts, cookies, doughs, custards, sauces, fillings, and plated dessert components.

• Follow established recipes, techniques, and production schedules with accuracy.

• Assist with production for banquets, restaurant service, and special events.

• Ensure all mise en place is completed, labeled, and stored according to food safety standards.

• Maintain cleanliness and organization of pastry stations, equipment, and storage areas.

• Properly handle, rotate, and store ingredients to minimize waste and ensure quality.

• Decorate desserts with consistent quality and attention to detail.

• Support the pastry team with creative input and testing when requested.

• Follow all sanitation, safety, and operational procedures.

• Communicate effectively with the Pastry Chef and culinary team regarding production needs and potential issues.

• Follow and adhere to production schedules and ability to work off of prep sheets.

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise: ·

• 1–2 years of pastry or baking experience preferred.
• Strong understanding of basic culinary techniques
• Ability to follow recipes precisely and reproduce consistent results.
• Good organizational skills and ability to work independently.
• Comfortable in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities.
• Able to lift up to 40 lbs. and stand for long periods.
• Reliable, punctual, and professional attitude.
