Job Summary:
The Mechanic Helper assists the Mechanic in diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining company vehicles and
equipment to ensure safe and reliable operation. This role supports daily maintenance and repair activities at
the shop and at various job sites by preparing tools, performing basic maintenance tasks, assisting with
inspections and repairs, and maintaining a safe and organized work environment. The Mechanic Helper works
under the supervision of a Mechanic and follows all safety regulations and company procedures.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist the Mechanic with diagnosing mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues.
- Support inspections of vehicles and equipment for damage, wear, and potential mechanical issues.
- Perform basic maintenance tasks such as oil changes, lubrication, tire changes, and parts cleaning.
- Help remove, install, and replace parts such as filters, hoses, belts, brakes, and basic components.
- Prepare tools, equipment, and work areas prior to repairs and maintenance activities.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the shop, service vehicles, and job sites.
- Transport tools, parts, and materials as needed.
- Assist with preventative maintenance tasks to reduce equipment downtime.
- Perform basic testing of vehicles and equipment after repairs under supervision.
- Follow all safety regulations, PPE requirements, and company procedures at all times.
- Maintain accurate records of assigned maintenance tasks when required.
- Communicate effectively with Mechanics, supervisors, and other team members.
- Learn and develop mechanical skills through hands-on training and observation.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Education Requirements:
- High school diploma or GED preferred.
- Previous mechanical, shop, or labor experience preferred but not required.
- Basic understanding of hand tools, power tools, and mechanical equipment.
- Willingness to learn diesel, hydraulic, and electrical systems.
- Valid driver's license required.
- Ability to follow instructions and work as part of a team.
- Strong work ethic, reliability, and attention to safety.
Work Environment:
- Exposure to outdoor conditions, including extreme weather and rugged terrain.
- Work in proximity to high-voltage electrical systems, heavy machinery, and other oil and gas infrastructure.
- Required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) and follow strict safety protocols at all times.
Physical Demands:
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
- While executing job responsibilities, the employee will be required to engage regularly in standing, walking, sitting, manual manipulation of objects, tools, or controls, reaching, climbing stairs, and verbal communication.
- The employee will also be expected to have the ability to climb ladders, work from an elevated location, lift, stoop, bend, squat, kneel, reach, and crawl. Additionally, the employee will need to be able to frequently and repeatedly lift up to 50 pounds.
Travel:
- Daily travel within a limited area is expected for this position.
