Job Title: Youth Program Career Advisor
Compensation: $25 Hourly during probationary period on staffing agency payroll; $54k-$55K Annual Salary with benefits
Location: Mendota, CA (With expected travel throughout Fresno County)
Schedule: Monday- Friday 9am to 5pm
Purpose: America Works of California, Inc. (AWCA) is seeking a dedicated and self-motivated Career Advisor to help at-risk youth in Fresno County with their academic, career, and personal development through career coaching, work experience and job development, and barrier remediation. Candidates with bilingual or multilingual capabilities, especially Spanish and Hmong, are encouraged to apply.
Duties and Responsibilities
Manage a caseload of at-risk youth in Fresno County and develop individualized plans for each youth, incorporating both academic and career goals
Provide on-going case management for youth on caseload, which may incorporate tutoring, academic planning, dropout prevention strategies, college counseling, financial aid counseling, exam preparation, career coaching, job search assistance, mock interview prep, resume development, etc.
Travel to locations throughout Fresno County to meet 1x1 with youth who may not have access to transportation
Monitor the progress of each youth towards their stated academic and/or career goals and make adjustments to individualized plans as needed to facilitate the best outcome for each youth
Conduct job readiness assessments with youth participants
Advise youth on basic career readiness skills and help youth to determine potential vocational training and/or employment opportunities
Identify and outreach employers that are willing to work in conjunction with AWCA to help youth participants find jobs in a variety of in-demand fields
Place youth in Work Experience Sites, internships, and/or long-term job placement
Provide career coaching, and job coaching, including labor market trends to job seekers, mock interview prep, resume development, coordinating job skills training, as outlined in participant employment plan (PLAN)
Provide job readiness skills training (soft skills workshops) in areas of resume preparation, interviewing and job search techniques
Develop and coordinate linkages with job skills training resources in high-demand fields
Observe, evaluate, and case note youth participant performance.
Model professionalism and inclusiveness, cultivate a safe environment for career development, and motivated clients to find full-time employment
Desired Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree Required
Must be willing to travel throughout Fresno County
Experience working with youth or in vocational/workforce development programs preferred
Strong computer and data entry skills
Must be able to meet goals and be results-oriented
Knowledge of Fresno County school system and post-secondary education system
Ability to develop and foster productive working relationships with youth ages 14-24
Passion for working with special and at-risk populations, including public assistance recipients, justice-involved individuals, persons with mental and/or physical disabilities, and individuals experiencing homelessness preferred
Bilingual speakers, especially Spanish and Hmong speakers, highly encouraged to apply
Strong communication skills, professional demeanor, sound judgment, and strong organizational skills
Understanding of workforce development, employment services, and adult education a definite plus
Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs, CRMs (i.e. Salesforce), and video call software preferred
