About the Role

Austin Tarp & Cargo Controls is seeking a Trailer Mechanic to install, service, and repair truck and trailer tarping systems. This role is entirely shop-based and offers training and all necessary tools provided. If you have strong mechanical aptitude and enjoy hands-on work, this is a great opportunity to build skills in a specialized trade with long-term demand.

Key Responsibilities

• Install tarp systems on semi-trucks, dump trucks, and tractor-trailers
• Perform preventative maintenance and inspections on trailer tarping systems
• Troubleshoot and repair tarp systems, including component replacement and adjustments
• Test equipment and systems to ensure performance and safety standards are met
• Assist with welding or fabrication for repairs (training available; prior experience a plus)
• Safely back trucks into bays as needed (no road driving required)
• Document work performed and maintain daily repair logs
• Communicate repair status, timelines, and any additional needs with the sales/service desk
• Maintain a safe and organized work environment, following all company safety practices (LO/TO, PPE, fall protection, etc.)

Qualifications

• Previous mechanic, trailer, or automotive repair experience helpful, but not required — we will train the right candidate
• Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills
• Ability to use handheld and power tools safely and effectively
• Welding or fabrication experience preferred, but not required
• Basic electrical knowledge a plus
• Forklift certification or CDL not required; willingness to train internally for lifts
• Ability to work efficiently under deadlines while maintaining attention to detail
• Understanding of safe work practices (Lockout/Tagout, PPE, fall protection)
• Must be physically able to work with heavy equipment and outdoors as needed
