Job Description:

The Laboratory Assistant is responsible for assisting the Medical Oncologist and other healthcare professionals with clinical and administrative duties. Responsibilities include performing phlebotomy and laboratory non-waived testing and maintaining proper documentation and adhering to best clinical practices.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

· Able to perform phlebotomy procedures and handle laboratory specimens appropriately.

· Centrifuge and aliquot specimen samples based on testing specifications.

· Send specimens to the appropriate testing facility.

· Execute laboratory testing with accuracy and ensure proper reporting in the Laboratory Information System (LIS) and Electronic Medical Record (EMR).

· Perform Quality Control (QC) prior to running patient samples and adhere to standard operating procedures (SOPs).

· Completes instrument maintenance as required by the manufacturer and following the laboratory's protocol.

· Maintain quality assurance and accurate logs and records as required for CLIA Certification and follow all other regulatory requirements.

· Perform proficiency testing (PT) as required for non-waived testing.

· Communicate with the laboratory team members and practice staff as needed and when appropriate.

Qualifications:

· Associate's degree in a medical field is required; bachelor's degree is preferred.

· Experience performing Point of Care (POC) or Laboratory Testing, such as blood glucose, CMPs, CBCs is strongly desired.

Knowledge, Competencies & Skills:

· Ability to multi-task, be self-motivated, reliable, and accountable in meeting deadlines.

· Excellent computer software and data analysis skills.

· Organized and strong oral and written communication skills.

· Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks effectively, and be detail oriented.

· Maintain HIPAA compliance and other requirements outlined by our accreditation and regulatory organizations.

· Ability to type a minimum of 25 words per minute.

· This position does not require travel.

Physical Requirements for the Job:

· Regularly required to sit and stand for extended periods.

· Involves standing, sitting, walking, bending, stooping, and twisting.

· Adjusting visual acuity to distinguish fine details and objects at specific distances.

· Requires full range of body motion, including manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination.

· Frequently lift and or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and move up to 25 pounds.

Job Type:  Full-Time 
 
Pay Range:  $ $24.00 per hour
 
Actual compensation offered to candidates is based on work experience, education, skill level, and geographic location. Compensation may vary depending on the state or region in which the position is located, in accordance with applicable laws.
