POSITION SUMMARY: Lead a thriving, close-knit middle school community.
Englewood Schools is seeking a dynamic, student-centered Principal to lead Englewood Middle School (grades 6–8) in advancing extraordinary outcomes for every learner. Our district has a moral imperative to ensure success for each student, honor the identities and cultures of our community, and maintain both high expectations and high support for the whole child.

Englewood is a small, close-knit community in the heart of the Denver metro area. In our state-of-the-art facilities, we serve approximately 2,400 students across one early childhood center, four elementary schools, one middle school, and two high schools. Each school is unique, yet all share Englewood's friendly, connected community feel. With award-winning programming and more than 400 caring staff members, Englewood offers big opportunities in a small setting.

The Principal provides leadership for the entire instructional program and school community — driving student achievement, developing and supporting staff, stewarding resources, ensuring a safe and equitable learning environment, and partnering with families and the broader Englewood community.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities
Instructional Leadership

  • Ability to identify and promote effective instructional practices
  • Instructional expertise around scientific and research-based instruction
  • Experience as an instructional leader is required
  • Knowledgeable about whole-child learning: physical, emotional, social, cognitive, and academic well-being.
  • Ability to work with teachers and all staff, to grow instructionally and professionally
  • Ability to create and maintain a safe and effective learning environment for students
  • Understanding of and experience in building-level school improvement processes leading to increased student performance
  • Ability to conduct and provide effective observation and feedback
  • Experience leading and implementing cycles of data-driven instruction through the PLC process
  • Leading professional development for staff

Communication

  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to consistently and effectively communicate with families and stakeholders through various communication channels, such as electronic newsletters and social media
  • Develops and maintains effective communications among the students, the community, the faculty and the administration

Collaboration

  • Ability to work collaboratively with students, staff, parents and community
  • Demonstrated effectiveness as both a team leader and team member

School Culture Leadership

  • Lead the implementation and continuous refinement of a school-wide behavior management system rooted in restorative practices, prioritizing relationship-building, conflict resolution, positive student behavior and the reduction of exclusionary disciplinary actions.
  • Establishes and maintains a positive, safe, and inclusive school climate that supports high academic achievement.

Change Management

  • Ability to be adaptive yet focused on improvement priorities
  • Plans and implements effective school improvement processes leading to increased student performance (short-cycle action planning, 90-day plans)

  • Prioritize and schedule work tasks independently

Professional Responsibilities

  • Leads staff members, through professional learning communities, in utilizing the district's standards-based curriculum to implement data-driven instruction that responds to students' learning needs
  • Creates, implements and maintains tiered systems of academic and social-emotional/behavioral support
  • Utilizes appropriate resources of the staff, student body, school district and the community to develop and maintain highly effective instructional and co-curricular programs
  • Plans and implements goals and objectives related to improving instruction in a standards-based model, leading to increased student achievement.
  • Plans and implements professional development activities for teachers and other staff members
  • Serves as a strong, supportive advocate for students and staff
  • Embraces the middle school community, is spirited, and cares about/enjoys working with students
  • Makes difficult decisions that are best for students, staff and the school
  • Motivates, inspires and leads students and staff
  • Responsible for performance evaluation and supervision of each staff member assigned to the school
  • Engages in professional learning that integrates application of learning with Englewood Schools' strategic plans and initiatives
  • Support the work in securing and maintaining grants that support educational opportunities for students
  • Supports the mission and vision of the Superintendent and Board of Education
  • Supports with supervision and management of extra-curricular events
  • Other duties as assigned

Supervision/Technical Responsibilities

  • Supervision of certified and classified employees
  • Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the district's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring and training employees; planning, assigning and directing work; conferences, goal setting, formal and informal observations, feedback and employee evaluations; rewarding, disciplining and recommending termination of employees; and addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Budget And/Or Resource Responsibilities

  • Ability to effectively build and manage a site-based budget
  • Create and implement effective and efficient process management strategies (e.g., procedures, equipment, materials and supplies)
  • Accurately project budgetary needs and plans for effective use of fiscal resources.
  • Maintain accurate records in accordance with professional standards, state guidelines, and school system policy.

Education/Training/Experience

  • Master's degree with emphasis in curriculum, instruction, educational leadership or administration (required)
  • Previous administrator/principal Turnaround experience at the middle school level (preferred)
  • Prior teaching experience (required)
  • Experience in supervision/evaluation of staff (preferred)
  • Bilingual (preferred)

Licenses Or Certifications

  • Valid Colorado Driver's License
  • Possess or have the ability to obtain a State of Colorado Principal's license prior to the start date
  • Possess a current teaching license (preferred)

Essential Physical Requirements

  • Frequently required to lift and carry materials weighing 5–10 pounds; occasionally required to lift items up to 50 pounds.
  • Frequently engages in activities such as sitting, standing, walking, bending, stooping, kneeling, squatting, and reaching in order to observe classrooms, move throughout the school building, support staff, and participate in school events.
  • Must be able to navigate a busy school environment, including stairs, outdoor areas, and various instructional spaces, to effectively support students, staff, and operational needs.
  • May be required to assist during emergencies, safety drills, or student supervision situations that involve physical movement or responsiveness.

Work Environment
The work environment is generally clean and comfortable, with a moderate noise level typical of an active school setting, including classrooms, hallways, and common areas.

Salary
Salary placement from $105,000 – 140,000, based upon experience and qualifications.

Additional Information
New hires or rehires will be responsible for the fingerprint processing fee required for background checks through the Colorado Bureau of Investigation.
