Overview: The Grants Accountant is responsible for managing the financial aspects of grants and contracts, including budgeting, reporting, compliance, and reconciliation. This role ensures that all grant-related financial activities align with organizational policies and funding agency requirements. The ideal Grants Accountant has strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and a strong understanding of budgeting and financial analysis, particularly within the non-profit sector.
Responsibilities:
- Monitor and track grant revenues and receipts to ensure all amounts the agency is entitled to are collected.
- Monitor and track grant expenditures to ensure compliance with funding guidelines.
- Prepare and submit timely financial reports to funding.
- Work with a variety of funding source portals for uploading documentation.
- Assist with grant budget development and modifications.
- Collaborate with program managers to review spending and forecast needs.
- Reconcile grant accounts and ensure accurate allocation of expenses.
- Maintain documentation for audits and reporting requirements.
- Ensure timely invoicing and drawdowns from funding sources.
- Stay current on federal, state, and private grant regulations.
- Support month and year-end close and internal/external audits related to grants.
- Support the annual budget preparation process as required.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- BS in Accounting.
- Knowledge of GAAP non-profit accounting.
- 3+ years of experience in grant accounting or nonprofit financial management.
- Strong computer knowledge enabling usage of MS office, accounting, and billing software.
- Excellent Excel skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively with strong verbal and written skills.
- Adhere to policies regarding confidentiality.
