Position Overview
Responsible for the assembly, wiring, and testing of electric motors and motor subassemblies in accordance with engineering drawings, specifications, and established manufacturing methods. Reports directly to the Assembly Department Supervisor. This position is in a collective bargaining Union and is a 2nd shift position. Must be willing to train on first shift until fully qualified.
Responsibilities
- Assemble electric motors and related subassemblies, including mechanical components, rotors, stators, housings, bearings, and electrical windings.
- Perform electrical assembly tasks such as wiring, lead connections, terminations, and insulation in accordance with drawings and specifications.
- Interpret and follow mechanical drawings, electrical schematics, work instructions, and bills of materials (BOMs).
- Use hand tools, power tools, presses, measuring devices, and electrical test equipment safely and effectively.
- Conduct in-process and final inspections, including basic electrical and mechanical testing, to ensure product conformance.
- Identify, document, and report nonconforming materials, components, or processes.
- Follow established manufacturing methods, quality standards, and safety procedures.
- Complete required production and quality documentation accurately.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
- Support continuous improvement efforts related to motor assembly processes and methods.
Required Knowledge/Skills, Education, and Experience
- High school diploma or GED required; technical or vocational training preferred.
- Minimum of 2 years of mechanical assembly, or a related manufacturing role.
- Must have the physical ability to perform work required
- Ability to read a tape measure, scale, calipers, and micrometers
- Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, electrical schematics, and technical specifications.
- Experience using hand tools, power tools, and precision measuring instruments.
- Strong attention to detail and quality.
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
Preferred Knowledge/Skills, Education, and Experience
- Experience assembling AC and/or DC motors.
- Knowledge of motor components and assembly methods.
- Familiarity with winding, balancing, or motor testing processes.
- Knowledge of lean manufacturing or continuous improvement principles.
- Experience working in a regulated or ISO-certified manufacturing environment.
The pay range for this position is $31.36. The shift differential for working second shift is $1.00. The actual wage offered may be lower or higher depending on budget and candidate experience, knowledge, skills, qualifications, and premium geographic location.
