Title: Physics of Light and Sound Adjunct Instructor
Position Reports To: Undergraduate Dean
Brief Narrative of Position: Instructor for a three-credit hour Physics of Light and Sound course, delivered in a Hybrid format.
Responsibilities: Engage and excite future music educators in a one-semester, three-credit hour course that focuses on applying and describing the principles of light and sound. The course includes an introduction to basic Newtonian mechanics with a focus on wave phenomena. Topics discussed range from standing waves on a string and sound phenomena, to light propagation and geometrical optics. Labs and in-class demonstrations provide real-world examples and hands-on applications to the concepts covered in class. Advanced topics include Doppler shift, brass / woodwind instruments, resonance and interference.
Qualifications: An enthusiastic subject specialist with a minimum of a Master's degree and documented successful past teaching experience.
Salary: Individual salaries that are offered to a candidate are determined after consideration of numerous factors including internal equity, market data, the candidate's qualifications – including but not limited to specialty skills, prior relevant industry experience, and relevant degrees or certifications. The salary range estimate below is inclusive of all departments within the institution and offered salaries may vary within the given range between departments. A reasonable estimate of the salary range for this position is $2500 – $3400 per semester. Benefits are not included for this position.
Appointment: Online and in-person instruction twice weekly (Mondays 5:00p-5:50p and Wednesdays 3:30p -5:20p). The spring 2026 semester begins on Monday, January, 12, 2026. Final Exam week is May 4, 2026.
