About the Role
As an Education Staff Member, you'll be on the front lines of our mission to inspire and educate You'll create memorable experiences for our guests by sharing your knowledge and enthusiasm about our diverse animal collection - from fascinating aquatic creatures to exotic reptiles, birds, and insects. You'll help visitors of all ages discover the wonders of these amazing animals and their habitats. This role is perfect for someone who loves connecting with people, has a passion for wildlife, and enjoys creating those special moments that visitors will remember long after they leave. You'll be the friendly face that makes each guest feel welcome while sparking curiosity and learning through every interaction.
Your Top Responsibilities
1. Guest Education & Engagement
- Deliver engaging and informative interactions at exhibits, helping guests develop a deeper appreciation for diverse animal species
- Share fascinating facts and stories about our aquatic life, reptiles, birds, and insects with genuine enthusiasm
- Adapt your approach for different audiences – from excited children to curious adults
- Answer questions knowledgeably and turn each interaction into a memorable learning moment
- Show up for your teammates by sharing knowledge and staying eager to learn more about our varied animal collection
2. Customer Experience & Memorable Interactions
- Provide a 5-star guest experience with every interaction
- Maintain a positive, friendly, and welcoming atmosphere—always greeting guests with a smile
- Help visitors navigate the aquarium and make the most of their experience
- Create those special "wow moments" that guests will remember and share with others
- Bring enthusiasm and energy to the workplace, even during busy periods
3. Exhibit & Guest Area Maintenance
- Keep all exhibit areas clean, organized, and visually appealing throughout your shift
- Address any cleanliness issues immediately with a "clean as you go" mindset
- Perform end-of-day cleaning tasks including floors, exhibit glass, and gift shop preparation
- Take pride in the appearance of our facility, knowing it enhances the guest experience
- Do what you say by completing all assigned tasks thoroughly and consistently
4. Token Sales & Revenue Contribution
- Proactively and enthusiastically explain the interactive experiences available with tokens
- Help guests understand the value of these experiences in creating lasting memories
- Upsell tokens by highlighting the unique opportunities to interact with stingrays, birds, reptiles, and other animals
- Connect token purchases to our educational mission and animal care efforts
- Contribute to Blue Zoo's success while enhancing the visitor experience
5. Team Collaboration & Operational Support
- Rotate through stations every hour to maintain variety and team coverage or during slow times, provide a private tour for guests
- Work closely with the Manager, Assistant Manager, and Husbandry team
- Support your teammates during busy periods with a "we're all in this together" approach
- Adapt to changing needs throughout the day with flexibility and a positive attitude
- Communicate effectively with team members to ensure consistent guest experiences
Daily Responsibilities
Morning Shift
- Assist with opening procedures to prepare the aquarium for guests
- Ensure register and gift shop are ready for the day
- Position yourself at your first educational station
- Rotate stations hourly while maintaining enthusiastic guest interactions
- Clean as you go and maintain exhibit appearance throughout your shift
Mid Shift
- Position yourself at assigned station upon arrival
- Deliver engaging educational content about exhibits and animals
- Rotate stations hourly to provide fresh energy at each location
- Actively engage with guests and enhance their experience
- Support opening and closing team members as needed
PM/Closing Shift
- Maintain high-energy guest interactions throughout your shift
- Complete end-of-day cleaning tasks including floors and exhibit glass
- Assist with closing the register and preparing the gift shop for the next day
- Ensure all areas are clean and ready for the following day's operation
- Finish all closing duties with attention to detail
Qualifications & Skills
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Genuine enthusiasm for wildlife, including aquatic species, reptiles, birds, and insects
- Ability to stand for extended periods and move throughout the facility
- Willingness to learn about various animal species and their habitats
- Weekend and holiday availability
- Prior customer service experience preferred but not required
- Comfort with public speaking and engaging diverse audiences
- Reliable transportation to and from work
