We are hiring for this position out of our Toronto office. Successful candidates who apply outside of these areas will be expected to relocate and reside in a location that is within a commutable distance.

About the role:

The Software Engineer II plays a critical role in designing, building, and maintaining high-quality software solutions that support Peoples Group's business objectives. This role involves hands-on coding, collaboration across teams, and a commitment to continuous improvement and innovation.

About the day-to-day:

  • Develop clean, maintainable, and efficient code aligned with business requirements.
  • Implement new features and resolve bugs across various applications.
  • Ensure code adheres to established standards and best practices.
  • Collaborate with developers, QA engineers, and product owners in Agile ceremonies including daily stand-ups, sprint planning, and retrospectives.
  • Participate in technical discussions and contribute to architectural decisions.
  • Conduct peer code reviews to ensure quality, consistency, and security.
  • Troubleshoot and debug issues in development and production environments.
  • Refine user stories and clarify requirements with product owners.
  • Estimate effort and plan tasks for upcoming sprints.
  • Stay current with industry trends, tools, and technologies.
  • Mentor junior developers and share knowledge across the team.
  • Write unit tests and perform development testing to ensure system performance.
  • Monitor application performance and optimize code for efficiency.
  • Implement and review security measures to safeguard applications.
  • Collaborate with business and technical teams to build and enhance APIs.
  • Ensure APIs are well-documented and meet performance and security standards.

About the qualifications:

  • Minimum 2 years of experience in back-end software development. 
  • Proficiency in writing clean, maintainable code in modern programming languages (e.g., Java, C#, Python, JavaScript). 
  • Experience working in Agile environments and participating in the full software development lifecycle, including API development and integration  . 
  • Working understanding of software design principles, testing methodologies, and security best practices. 
  • Familiarity with debugging tools,  version control systems (e.g., Git) and CI/CD pipelines. 
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills. 
  • Post Secondary education in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent working experience.

About the work environment:

Peoples Group offers a flexible and hybrid work environment. In this role you will work a combination of in-office and remotely from home. Typically, you'll be working regular business hours, Monday to Friday between 8:00am and 4:30pm with flexibility around start/end times.

Hiring process:

If your application is selected, you will be invited for a first interview with one of our Talent Acquisition Business Partners. Depending on the role, interviews may be conducted virtually or in-person. The hiring team will communicate any in-person requirements throughout the process.

Compensation: 

The expected salary for this role is approximately $80, $104,000.00 annually. Actual compensation may vary based on experience, skills, and qualifications.
