About the Role

We are seeking an Electrical Designer (Junior – Intermediate) to join our team in Victoria. In this role, you will be responsible for developing electrical designs, integrating them into working drawings, preparing construction documents, conducting site reviews, and attending client meetings. This is a great opportunity for someone with building consulting experience who thrives in a collaborative team environment and is eager to develop their technical skills under the guidance of a mentor. The focus will be on electrical systems for residential, commercial, mixed-use, healthcare, institutional, and light industrial projects.

Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Collaborate with Project Managers to develop construction document packages and reports.
  • Support lead Engineers in planning, studies, and assessments.
  • Conduct site reviews to assess and document existing conditions.
  • Prepare engineering studies and design calculations (e.g., feeder sizing, voltage drop, overcurrent protection, fault current, and lighting calculations).
  • Layout electrical equipment, wiring devices, branch circuiting, lighting design, life safety systems, communication systems, and security systems.
  • Provide electrical design mark-ups for the drafting department and oversee the production of electrical packages.
  • Coordinate with utilities for new service requirements.
  • Monitor construction and commissioning processes, preparing documentation such as field reports, change orders, and shop drawing reviews.
  • Collaborate with Architects, Interior Designers, and other professionals.
  • Perform additional duties as required.
  • Maintain familiarity with the Canadian Electrical Code and BC Building Code.
  • Potential to utilize AutoCAD in design processes.
  • Adhere to industry-specific codes and standards (e.g., CANULC, ASHRAE, BCBC, NECB).

Our Must Haves:

The qualified applicant will have a minimum of one of the following:

  • At least two years of experience as an electrical designer in a building engineering consulting firm, OR
  • A qualified journeyman electrician with at least four years of experience working on commercial building projects.
  • Additional requirements:
    • Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints, schematics, and other construction documents.
    • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
    • Ability to quickly adopt and implement company-specific techniques, standards, and procedures.
    • Detail-oriented with a commitment to accuracy.
    • Collaborative mindset with a strong desire to contribute to team success.
    • Excellent work ethic, self-discipline, and organizational skills.
    • Ability to prioritize tasks effectively and manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
    • Willingness to meet tight deadlines while maintaining quality

Compensation: $65,000 to $85,000 (depending on experience).
