As part of our Architecture practice at HDR, you'll contribute to the design and delivery of spaces and experiences that advance community well-being around the world. From healing environments and learning spaces to research labs and civic landmarks and infrastructure, your work will directly influence how individuals experience the world around them. In the role of Design Coordinator, we'll count on you to:
  • Alongside the Sector Leader, Design Principal, and Architects, collaborate on technical design and delivery of a wide variety of Post-Secondary Education, Science and Recreation building types.
  • Maintain a culture of client-focused project delivery through high technical competency.
  • Deliver project documentation with oversight by the Project Lead.
  • Be involved in multiple projects at various stages and scales at any one time.
  • Have an understanding and skillset of developing architectural design documentation from design development drawings and diagrams through construction documentation and how they interacts with other disciplines
  • To be skilled with the software used to produce the designs identified in the Digital Delivery requirements: including Revit, AutoCAD, Rhino, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe In-Design.
  • Create and maintain the Revit models, content, and overall digital delivery output.
  • Coordinate and write specifications to align with drawings and design intent.
  • Actively participate as a member of our in-office studio.
  • Maintain positive working relationships with engineering partners and key client representatives.
  • Coordinate with design and digital delivery team (BIM Managers) in determining the best solutions for documentation of materials, interaction of design elements, and integrity of building envelope enclosure.
  • Be versed in implementation and application of BC Building codes and Vancouver Building Bylaw, WorkSafe BC compliance and other building code, standards and guidelines.
  • Provide construction administration assistance on projects in CA Phases with oversight by the Project Lead.
  • Perform other duties in support of the Practice and sector as needed.

Preferred Qualifications
  • A minimum of 1 year of professional or internship experience preparing details, specifications and construction documents
  • Understanding of architectural concepts and implementation requirements for contract documents.
  • Knowledge of industry standards and practices, along with discipline codes and specifications.
  • Experience with medium-to-large scale public housing, educational institution, community and science projects is preferred.
  • Understanding of cost management and tracking
  • Experience with Rhino and other 3D design tools and translation into Revit software
  • Concept and Schematic Design reporting
  • Academic business case development
  • Adobe InDesign experience
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Architecture or closely related field
  • Must possess credentials to obtain future registration
  • Experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Project)
  • Desire to pursue growth opportunities and eventually obtain registration
  • Strong leadership, communication and relationship management skills
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Proficient in use of Autodesk Revit and familiarity with related tools and process
  • Demonstrated graphic presentation skills
  • An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must
