Position Overview:
We are seeking a highly skilled, reliable, and adaptable professional to serve as a Class A Diesel Mechanic & Facility Technician, responsible for maintaining the integrity of our facilities and ensuring the operational readiness of our fleet. This hybrid role supports both building maintenance and Class A vehicle service at our warehouse locations in Houston, Texas. The ideal candidate will be a hands-on problem solver with strong mechanical skills and experience managing commercial property needs.
Key Responsibilities:
Facility Maintenance & Operations:
- Routine Building Maintenance:
- Inspect buildings, grounds, roofs, and equipment for wear, safety hazards, or damage.
- Complete general repairs (painting, patching, lighting, plumbing, HVAC, minor electrical).
- Support warehouse equipment maintenance (e.g., shrink wrap machines, racking systems).
- Supervise and coordinate vendors for landscaping, window cleaning, pest control, and janitorial services.
- Cleaning & Grounds:
- Ensure cleanliness of office and warehouse spaces (interior and exterior).
- Perform or oversee quarterly deep cleaning and daily/weekly upkeep.
- Power wash walkways, parking areas, and building surfaces as needed.
- Manage annual line striping for parking lots and docks.
- Remove debris, garbage, leaves, and cobwebs; maintain pest-free, safe environments.
- Scheduled Inspections & Compliance:
- Perform and document weekly, monthly, and quarterly inspections of the facility and grounds.
- Ensure compliance with local/state building codes and safety standards (OSHA, DOT).
- Manage and review maintenance logs, vendor work, and facility work orders.
- Weather & Emergency Preparedness:
- Coordinate pre- and post-storm inspections and responses (snow removal, leak repairs, salting walkways).
- Be available for after-hours or emergency maintenance needs.
- Equipment Management:
- Inventory and maintain all facility maintenance tools and equipment (scrubbers, sweepers, ladders, hand tools).
- Ensure cleanliness, safety, and readiness of all tools and machinery.
- Project Coordination:
- Serve as project lead or foreman for on-site vendor repairs, installations, or construction-related work.
- Assist in facility setup and breakdown for corporate events.
Mechanic Duties:
- Fleet Maintenance & Repair:
- Perform diagnostics and minor repairs on Class A trucks (brakes, electrical, suspension, engine components).
- Conduct routine maintenance (oil changes, tire rotation, fluid level checks).
- Ensure compliance with DOT standards and perform safety checks.
- Shop & Equipment Management:
- Maintain a clean, organized workspace and manage tool and parts inventory.
- Document all repair and maintenance activity accurately and timely.
Required Qualifications:
- Technical Experience:
- Strong working knowledge of commercial facility maintenance and building systems (HVAC, electrical, plumbing, etc.).
- Proven experience in diesel truck maintenance and minor mechanical repairs.
- Certifications & Education:
- Class A Diesel Mechanic Certification (or equivalent experience).
- High School Diploma or GED required; technical or trade school preferred.
- ASE, OEM training, or 608/609 HVAC certifications are a plus.
- Skills & Physical Requirements:
- Proficiency with diagnostic tools, hand/power tools, and shop equipment.
- Ability to lift 50+ lbs, climb ladders, and work in physically demanding environments.
- Willingness to work in non-climate-controlled conditions and during off-hours as needed.
- Strong organizational and communication skills with ability to prioritize tasks independently.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Valid Class A CDL (preferred but not required).
- Familiarity with OSHA, DOT, and local safety compliance standards.
- Experience using CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management Systems) for tracking repairs.
