Job Summary: The Automation & Controls Specialist is responsible for maintaining and improving automation control systems integral to production processes. Troubleshoot and implement controls improvements to increase efficiency, reduce costs, and improve reliability. Increase equipment uptime, efficiency, and quality through the utilization of technology pursuing continuous equipment improvement. A secondary responsibility is to support training, Robot and PLC programming, motion control programming, operator interface programming and fault recovery, temperature control, robotic, vision, Support I&E tech on Instrumentation troubleshooting, electrical troubleshooting and facility systems programming and implementation.
Supervisory Responsibilities: Provide guidance to less experienced team members.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Perform continuous improvement activities to improve safety, productivity, and reduce production cost.
- Troubleshoot and implement modifications to electrical systems including robotics, automated equipment, and drives.
- Assist in PM strategy development and predictive maintenance improvements.
- Support major maintenance, emergency repairs, and corrective actions.
- Participate in controls projects, capital projects, and new machinery pre-design reviews.
- Provide training and guidance to maintenance personnel.
- Maintain and manage Calibration software (Beamex).
- Support I&E technicians with troubleshooting and calibration.
- PLC, HMI, and robotics design, implementation, and modification
- Incorporating new equipment into control logic
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Strong project management and people skills.
- PLC, HMI, robotics, instrumentation, and AutoCAD experience preferred.
- Proficient in MS Office/Excel.
- Must be able to read and communicate in English to understand technical documents, safety procedures, and instructions relevant to job duties. English proficiency is required due to operational and safety communication needs.
Education and Experience:
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- Associate or Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Electrical, Instrumentation, Robotics preferred.
- Preferred 5–7 years experience in robotic systems (ABB) and PLC/HMI (Allen Bradley) including troubleshooting.
Physical Requirements:
- Lift up to 50 lbs.
- Walk 2–3 miles per day.
- Work 12-hour shifts in all weather.
- Work at heights\climb stairs and in stressful environments.
- Wear acid suit as required.
