Über

Our Distribution East group is currently looking to add an Estimator to our growing team, based in Vaughan, ON.

Reporting to the Vice President Distribution East, we are seeking an experienced construction estimator who will oversee and provide guidance on pricing for a range of projects, aiming to secure contracts through competitive value propositions that balance competitiveness and profitability.  In this role, you will support Electrical Distribution projects by providing cost estimates, determining project costs, assessing materials and labor requirements, executing RFQ/RFP's for subcontracting opportunities and analyzing quotes.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Prepare complete estimates for selected projects, including project site visits, quantity take-offs, pricing, and presentation of estimates for review by cost engineering and management
  • Develop, or assist in developing, general and project-specific plans for execution, sequencing, and logistics, including construction and work procedures as needed for bidding and preliminary project schedules
  • Assemble estimates from various sources to create comprehensive and final estimates for the company, collaborating with engineering support
  • Review and validate outsourced estimates
  • Incorporate historical data from received estimates, contracts awarded by the EPC Contractor, and final project costs into Valard's cost model
  • Format estimates according to Owner's Reporting standards
  • Review and understand the Design Basis, Engineering Design Documents, and Basis of Estimate
  • Offer guidance to non-estimating personnel on their estimating-related needs
  • Attend and contribute to project planning sessions and team meetings to provide estimating insights
  • Communicate effectively (both written and verbal) with the estimating team, management at all levels, clients, and industry contacts
  • Establish and nurture business relationships with subcontractors and suppliers for pricing within estimates
  • Collaborate with internal teams, including operations, procurement, finance and engineering, to ensure seamless project planning and turnover from estimate to execution

Requirements

  • Post-Secondary education in Engineering, Commerce, Construction Management
    • An equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may also be considered
  • Proven experience with construction documents and the ability to assess their completeness
  • 7 years of technical experience with estimating practices, techniques, and equipment
  • Experience producing technical estimates for utility construction
  • Demonstrated construction cost experience, including project budgeting and the ability to develop project schedules
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Outlook, Project, and Excel
  • Ability to read and interpret drawings and specifications

Preferred Skills / Qualifications

  • Experience with Electrical Distribution projects
