Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Veterinary Assistant to join our veterinary team. The ideal candidate will support veterinarians and veterinary technicians in providing high-quality animal care, ensuring smooth clinic operations, and maintaining a safe and clean environment. Responsibilities
- Assist with animal restraint during examinations, treatments, and procedures to ensure safety for both animals and staff
- Administer medications and vaccines accurately following veterinary instructions
- Handle animals of various species, including dogs, cats, and equines, demonstrating proper animal handling techniques
- Support kennel duties such as cleaning, feeding, and monitoring animals' behavior and health status
- Prepare animals for surgery or diagnostic procedures, including sedation or anesthesia as directed
- Maintain cleanliness of treatment areas, surgical suites, and kennels using aseptic techniques
- Assist with laboratory procedures such as sample collection, processing, and basic testing
- Support front desk activities including client communication, appointment scheduling, and record keeping
- Educate pet owners on pet care, medication administration, and post-treatment instructions
- Maintain detailed knowledge of veterinary terminology, animal physiology, anatomy, and medical procedures to assist effectively
Experience
- Previous kennel experience or animal husbandry background preferred
- Veterinary technician or assistant experience highly desirable
- Experience with animal restraint, medication administration, and laboratory procedures is advantageous
- Familiarity with veterinary critical care practices and pet care protocols is a plus
- Knowledge of equine handling or large animal care is beneficial but not required
- Prior veterinary clinic experience demonstrating strong animal handling skills and understanding of veterinary terminology is preferred
This position requires a compassionate attitude towards animals and clients, strong attention to detail, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
